Getting right to it…

Alva/Dogtown/Z-Flex

This month I’m lumping these 3 together because there wasn’t a lot of action for these classics. First up this month is this late 70s Alva pig complete. It went for a reasonable $561. Judging by the griptape, it’s in very good shape.

That’s it for the Alvas. Let’s look at the Dogtowns. First we have this awesome condition Jim Muir with Lazer trucks and what look like Road Rider wheels. It went for $565, which doesn’t seem bad at all.

Next up we have this Dogtown Triplane. It was sold by the same guy that sold the Alva above. The Triplane was unusual because the graphics underneath were a lot plainer than the graphics under the clear griptape on top of the deck. They are in great shape as you can see, so I was surprised that this classic only fetched $330.

Wes Humpston, the original Dogtown artist, started making some new decks again a few months ago: you might have seen the new Shogo Kubo they put out under his Bulldog banner. Anyway, this limited Bulldog went for $391. It is numbered and signed by the artist. It was a limited run of 50 decks. Dig those crazy wheel wells!

Now for something crazy. There have been a few things on ebay trying to cash in on the success of the Z-Boys movie, but nothing as crazy or original as this: one of the original Zephyr surf Shop long-sleeved t-shirts, as talked about in the movie. This one is tattered and torn, but looks original as can be. It didn’t meet the minimum reserved price, but was bid up to a hefty $565. Unreal.

Powell Peralta

This was the month for crazy freestyle decks on ebay. Somebody must have sold off their entire collection, because there was a ton of famous and not-so-famous freestyle decks on there in May. Let’s start off with the Mullens. How about $960 for the this onet? I think it’s rare in white.

The red one went for $808: still a handsome price for decks you couldn’t give away back then. I’m surprised it went for a modest $347. Great deck. (err.. if you are into freestyle maybe.. – k.ed)

Kevin Harris was another Powell freestyler. His decks go for decent green too. Not Mullen money, but still. Here are two examples. The first one went for $555.

The second for $216. I can see no real difference between the two, so the first buyer must have kicked himself when he saw the price the second one fetched. There were probably only 2 guys bidding on them actually!

Enough of the freestyle stuff. As normal there was a Vallely up there that went for big $. This one was unusual though. It is new school shape. After leaving for World Industries and then forming his own company, Mike apparently went back to Powell for a while in the mid 90s. This new version of an old classic is the result. How does $415 grab you?

Lastly from Powell we have an old classic: the Vato Rat. My first real deck. I would love one of these again, but not for the $400 that this one fetched. It’s a beaut, but what’s with the crap sticker on the tail?

Santa Cruz

More Natas decks, as usual. Two Natas “kitten” decks, which both seem very overpriced to me. The first, which is in a nasty green stain, went for a whopping $527.

The second, which is a nicer natural wood color, went for $438. I wouldn’t give more than $250.

The Jeff Grosso decks on Santa Cruz are always popular too. This one was $511 popular. I believe Disney threatened to sue over the Alice in Wonderland characters which is why this deck was so limited. Love the caterpillar with the bong.

Zorlac

The Texas Zorlacs are always a big money maker! First up we have this John Gibson. It is the very rare 1st model Zorlac Gibson that was a true pig, and not the later stinger-styled cutaway we all remember. It went for $305, which isn’t bad for a deck of this rarity.

Then we have the first Craig Johnson “Voodoo doll” model from similar vintage. $344. What are those Caballero stickers doing on there?

Finally we have the always popular Zorlac “shrunken head” Doublecut model. A hit in any condition. This one is nice, and went for $1260. Oooh. Classic.

Vision/Sims

The evil alliance, but they do have some classics! First up is this Sims Lester “Splat”. We all remember it, but you don’t see too many in this condition! $610.

How about this original Vision Gonz for $725? The remake is nice, but the original is nicer. Remember kiddies, if it doesn’t say Mark Gonzales, it’s not the real deal!

G&S

First up is this G&S Neil Blender “faces”. I always loved this deck. Somebody else did too, to the tune of $500.

Then we have an old classic: the G&S Doug “Pineapple” Saladino deck. Deathbox uses similar graphics in their new deck for Pineapple. This classic from the late 70s went for $536. Dig the ACS trucks and the Yo-yo wheels.

Assorted

Jason Lee decks are always very popular with collectors, despite not being that old. This mint one went for $460.

Here’s a World Industries Vallely “circus” model that went for $430. I think it’s his first model on World. Note the broken skateboard and the launch ramp. A shot at Powell?

This signed Matt Hensley deck for H-Street went for $610. Art Godoy did the graphics I believe.

Finally this month we have yet another freestyle deck. How does a Circle-A Bob Schmelzer grab you? The $529 somebody paid for this deck just shows that there are some serious freestyle collector s out there. Insane.

See you in June
