eBay Watch: July/August 2003

After the insanity of June, July and August were pretty sedate, so I’m combining them. Unless I missed a bunch of stuff which is more than likely! Let’s get to it.

Here’s one of the most valued collector decks out there: the Santa Cruz Jeff Grosso “Alice”. Watch the collectors come running when one of these goes up! This one went for $1425 which is actually kind of low.

I love this Jeff Kendall “Jagermeister” deck. I hope they reissue it though, because I’m not paying $305 for it.

We have 2 Corey O’Brien “Reapers” this time. Both mint, the first is a lovely green stain. A snip at $222.

The second is in a natural stain. A little rarer I guess, because it went for $260. Looks great both ways. I saw a picture of a guy who has this tattooed across his back. Looks awesome actually. Another graphic they should reissue.

Ooooh, a Salba voodoo. You didn’t see a mint one of these forever on the bay. A whole bunch have shaken loose recently though. This is the same blue paint voodoo that I have, but mine is very beat up. People should take some of their winnings and get new digital cameras, because a lot of the product photos on the bay suck. Case in point. Oh yeah, it fetched $680.

Here’s a funky generic Santa Cruz pig. It’s a street skate I think. $127. Do a varial on that and hypnotize the other skaters. (I’ve never seen this, suprised it din’t fetch more ’cause it must be rare? -ed)

Now here’s a rare deck. The Santa Cruz Spidey. Rick Demontrond. Famous for this deck and not much else really. Not that he wasn’t a good skater, just didn’t get his name out there too much. Rad deck though. And rare. $622.

Blind

Let’s start with one of Blind’s founders, mark Gonzales. And here’s one of the most famous Blind graphics, the Skull and Banana Powell spoof. Treasured around the world, this mint model went for $1499.

And here’s another Jason Lee cat in the hat. $510. That’s half the price of the one that went in June ($1025), and IMHO it looks better too. Ebay is weird.

And another Jason Lee, this time his Bowie tribute deck. $700? Hmm.

This Blind Rudy Johnston “sparkplug” must be a favorite of a lot of gearhead collectors, because it fetched a large $520. Or maybe it went that high because they can hang it in the bathroom and wack off to it.

And here’s another Rudy Johnston, this time the Olde English model from 92, which shows how down and street he is. Uh, OK. Whatever. $405.

Assorted

Let’s start with an Alva. The famous Alva Daggertail to be specific. It seems to have a tailbone that matches the shape of the tail! Now that is rad. Shame about the crappo picture though. $1125. Yup, that’s right.

Zorlac gargoyle anybody? I guess somebody can’t get enough penis shaped decks. $299. Pushead Zorlacs sure do keep their value.

I believe that this is the 2nd Vision Mark Gonzales model, which probably explains the $516 it went for. He just reissued the graphic for his new company, Krooked.

This might be one of the worst Hosoi hammerheads I’ve ever seen, color scheme wise. However it’s been signed on the tail, I assume by Christian, and by someone else too? Rogowski? Both jailbirds on 1 deck? Could it be? $600.

Hookups decks don’t get much love, but I love ‘em. Here’s the very first anime style deck—the original Jeremy Klein. It’s actually by World Industries, but after this Klein took the style and formed Hook-Ups. $320.

It’s not often that we get a Walker deck to look at, and this time we’ve got two! First up is the Walker Exterminator. I used to dig Walker because they were a skater owned company from Florida, trying to compete with the big boys. They also sponsored the best skater in Illinois at the time, Tory Boettcher. I digress. This Walker fetched $161.

Then we have the ultimate of 80s excess, shape-wise. The Walker Nightmare. Probably called that because it was a nightmare for the woodshop to cut out all of those angles. What can I say? It comes complete with a Bird and short ribs so you wouldn’t damage the tail graphics? Love it. $152. (Dang! two Walkers in ione month, when’s the last time that happened? I can’t believe you passed up a chance to give them their own section. -k.ed)

From one extreme to the other: here’s the first model Tracker Dan Wilkes deck. A minimum of frills. Dan is a super nice guy and a ripper from Texas. Collects scooters these days I’m told. Sweet color on this one. $180.

Staying in Texas, who can forget the late Jeff Phillips. The Phillips 66 was the raddest—I rated it higher than a McTwist back in the day. This nice complete only fetched $229, which was a bargain for some lucky soul. The deck is in really nice condition, and way to color coordinate the plastics!

Remember when Tod Swank rode for Skull, and he had the Justin Lovely teapot graphic? Nice decks. Here’s one that features the moon and star logo that he would later take to Foundation. My partner Randy still has this deck! $152. (yeah but it’s thrashed. I tried setting it up again and realized why I quit riding it. no nose, no concave. Looks cool though – ed)

Mike Vallely. World Industries from about 1991. His last WI deck. The idea was that all living things are connected. I love Mike V. No dumbass pictures of Olde English for him. $426.

And here’s a nice one. A Rocco street deck before he formed WI, when he was still on Sims. His freestyle decks are fairly common, but this street deck isn’t. $252. Love the colors.

Finally this time we have this Powell Ratbones complete. I absolutely love the silver paint, and all of the plastic has really helped to protect this beauty. $255 seems like a real steal for this complete. (Slowest month ever for Powell -ed)
