Skate and Annoy Features

eBay Watch: July 2002

Let’s start it.

Alva / Dogtown / Z-Flex

I’m lumping these together again, because there wasn’t much action on the “classics” front. First up we have this Dogtown Wes Humpston complete. It’s in sweet condition: I love the neon green conicals! It went for $710, which seems like a real bargain.

Next we have this Dogtown Paul Constantineau “TailTap”. It seems to be in great condition, but you can’t really tell from the small piece the seller decided to show. $687.

Moving on, we have this mint condition Dogtown Stonefish from the mid 80s. You don’t see them very often, and especially not mint like this! $250 seems like a real bargain. Dig the tiny wheel wells.

Finally we have this classic red Z-Flex. It looks like it’s in primo condition. $400 seems like a bargain for a piece of skate history verging on 30 years old.

Santa Cruz

Let?s start with the oldest first. Here?s a true classic. The Duane Peters red and black striped model. It?s pretty beaten up, but good enough to fetch $498. Love that coper on the back truck that doesn?t fit!

Jeff Kendall decks are always popular with collectors for some reason, and this pumpkin model is one of the most collectible. This one is in almost mint condition and went for $411.

And now three of my favorites. First up we have the Corey O Brien “Reaper” model. I love this deck. Could somebody give me one already? $261

Ditto for this Jason Jessee “Neptune”. Nearly-mint condition, $386.

Then we have the Jason Jessee “Guadalupe” deck. Seems like there?s one of these every month, but it holds its value. $315.

Natas

Natas gets his own section because there is so much Natas stuff out there, and it’s all so popular. This month had some surprises though. First here’s the regular stuff. This Natas panther went for $282. Looks to be in great nick, but who can tell what the tail looks like?

Then we have the ever-popular Natas kitten. It’s in a nice natural stain. I’d like one, but not for $345.

Then came 2 unusual Natas decks, neither of which I?d seen before. He must have had a million decks on 101. The first is this Natas graffiti deck, which must have been popular with somebody because it went for $560. I assume it says Natas on there somewhere, but I can?t be bothered to look too closely.

From the same seller we have this Natas “dollar bill” deck. $480.

Powell-Peralta

Old Powell pigs are super hot with collectors at the moment, and our first deck from Powell this month is one such deck. An original Alan Gelfand “Ollie” deck. It is abused, but still went for $430.

Then we have another one of my personal favorites, the Rat Bones deck. This one is even in the same color scheme that I used to have: navy blue. An even $300. What the hell are those crazy stickers doing on there?!

The original Ray “Bones” Rodriguez Skull and Sword graphic was reissued in the late 80s, and here we have an example of it. They added the all-over skeleton print, and I love the shape. $275.

Powell freestyle decks always hold their value. The most desirable is the Mullen obviously, but the Kevin Harris does OK too, especially with our friends north of the border! $300 complete. Dig the double tail/nose bones!

Skull

First up we have this Tod Swank ?star and moon? model. Great graphic. Great deck. Great price: $306. A precursor to the Foundation graphic.

I?d never seen this particular Hosoi Hammerhead before, but I think it?s legit. The Hammerhead III, along with paint splotch. Ugly colors. $255.

Hacketts are fairly common on ebay. This Street Sickle one went for $126. Again, the seller might have been hiding something with his cropped photo.

The biggest surprise of the month was this Skull Skates Social Distortion deck. Band decks always go for big $, but this one even surprised the hell out of me. It went for a huge $1033! Ouch.

Miscellaneous

A lot of oddities in the miscellaneous section this month. First up is this Set of Schmitt Stix John Luceros. The 3 went for $636. Not a bad per unit price actually.

In similar fashion we have this set of Plan B Star Wars decks. I believe each graphic was for a different pro. It is a very rare set obviously, as it sold for $1050.

This Plan B Mullen went for $866. It is his first non freestyle-deck I believe, and it features the same skeleton and crown as was on his Powell deck. A classic.

Next up is the classic G&S Neil Blender “coffee break” deck. I was surprised that it only fetched $510. I’d have expected close to $1k.

Now for some old classics. This Kryptonics Steve Alba deck went for $480, even though it is well used and dull as hell.

How about this beaten up Zorlac Doublecut for $350?

A classic Vision Animal Skin leopard deck went for $214. This is a beauty, and has just been reissued by Vision.

And finally we have this G&S Teamrider. Looks like it’s in minty fresh condition. It fetched a minty fresh $525.

Next time.

-Neil
