Skate and Annoy Features

eBay Watch: January – February 2002

Hello again. The post Xmas blues hit I think, because for the first time in a while, prices seemed to be going down. Buyers just didn’t seem as rabid as in the past! Here’s the scoop this month, by company.

Dogtown

First up is this vintage Dogtown Jim Muir. The photo is horrible, but the deck looks to be in great condition. Note the classic 70s round tail blocks. It went for $357.

Then we have another Jim Muir. The picture they posted only shows the middle of the deck, but it looks to be in good condition too. $350. The rails have helped the graphics.

The best Dogtown deck was not sold because the reserve price was not met. This absolutely beautiful, mint, Paul Constantineau “Tail Tap” was bid all the way up to $1575, but that was not enough for the lucky owner. I’d imagine we haven’t seen the last of this one.

Z-Flex

Plenty of Z-Flex decks this month. This first went for an amazing $900, but it is in primo condition, with no stickers etc. It also does not appear to be drilled.

This next one went for $521, which isn’t too shabby. It has a lot of wear on the tail, which decreased the value. Still a nice example though.

Santa Cruz

First up for Santa Cruz is this Jason Jessee deck. Jessee decks always had great graphics, and this used “Neptune’ is a great example. I like the grip job too. It fetched $127, which surprises me. I’d have guessed $200 in this condition.

Here’s another Jason Jesse ?Neptune”. This one is mint, and despite the terrible picture, it fetched $356. That just shows the weirdness of eBay sometimes. One week a better example will go for hundreds less. It’s all about timing and getting caught up in bidding wars.

Time for the regular, insane Roskopp sale. This one fetched $334. You know my views on Roskopps, so enough said. This is the first design in the series though, and the cutaway tail is sweet.

Now for Natas. This one went for $381. It’s a great graphic, and is mint, still in the plastic. The dark wood is kind of a drag though.

My favorite Santa Cruz of the month was this awesome Malba. I love the vibrant yellow color, and it appears to be in awesome condition. It went for $309, and I believe a collector called “The Grime” bought it. He’s one of the more famous collectors out there. I bet he’s enjoying this new addition to his collection!

Sims

Kevin Staab had a lot of different decks out there, and most aren’t very popular with collectors. This one is though, fetching a large $330. It is mint, as you can see.

Seaflex

You hardly ever see Seaflex decks on eBay. This was the first one I’ve ever seen actually, so I was very surprised when this complete went for only $242. It appears to be in great condition, and comes from about 1985. Hey Tom Koehl, maybe you should hang on to yours!

Skull came out with a number of band decks in the 80s, and they are all very collectible. This mint Red Hot Chili Peppers deck went for $457. Insane but true.

All Skull decks are popular, which explains why this very plain ?Skeletal” model went for $305. I think it’s ugly as hell, but hey.

I think this is the Skull version of the Hosoi deck, but I could be wrong. Any road up, this went for $240, complete. I love the way he matched the rails and tail skid to the pink Gullwing trucks.

Kryptonics

This early 80s Micke Alba went for $335. It is beat up, but you don’t see a lot of them. Wonder what the tail looks like? (isn’t this a Steve Alba? – k.ed)

The Godoys first pro model was on Kryptonics, and it makes me laugh whenever I see it. It dates form 85, and is rare. This one is complete and in pretty good condition. For $232 it was a bargain.

Vision

I don’t put a lot of Vision decks in here, mainly because I don’t like the company and I think a lot of their decks were crappy. This classic blue Gator went for $491 however, so I guess some people like the stuff?

This one surprised me though. An original Gonz in good condition. It only went for $175.

Schmitt Stix

The Joe Lopes “Bbq” model was always a fan favorite, and always goes for good coin. This fine example went for $290. Nice.

Powell

Much like with Vision, I’m not a big Powell guy. Too many models, too many skaters. One that always interests me is the Steve Steadham however. I can never figure out why it is so popular. This one went for $330. It’s in fair condition, and I must admit I do like the red and white color combo.

Madrid

The Mike Smith “Duck” model. $105. A nice price for a great condition complete. You can’t get a new school deck ready to ride for this price. Nothing more needs to be said.

As far as I know, Plan 9 only made Misfits decks, and they were all very limited. This one went for a cool $500.

Zorlac

This Donny Myhre model is from after Zorlac was sold and left Texas and moved to San Diego. It’s still sweet however, and still has all of the old logos etc. A nice deck for $150.

Element

I Wouldn’t normally put new school decks in here, but this is an Element version of the 2nd Natas pro graphic. Even though it is still in the stores, some fool bid it all the way up to $79.

Potpourri

Vintage t-shirts are big sellers too. I guess a lot go to guys who were there back in the day, but some probably go to people who just want to look like they were. Anyways, this Powell ?Fly” shirt went for $82.

This Powell “Rat Bones” shirt went for $91.

Best of all was this Neil Blender long sleeved shirt, but it only fetched $51. What’s up with that?

This vintage, mint “Flyaway” helmet went for $80. Eat your heart out.

This Thrasher mag from November 82 went for $71.

Before Fausto came out with Independent Trucks, Ermico enterprises came out with this truck, the Stroker. It had all kinds of springs etc, and was only available for a short time because it was unstable. This pair fetched $315, wheels not included.

Last but not least is this mint set of Belair Lipbomb wheels from the 70s. A snip at $153.

See ya next time.
