Skate and Annoy Features

eBay Watch: December 2001

As normal there were tons of decks going for big money, so let’s get started with the classics: the Alvas, Dogtowns and Z-Flex.

Alva / Dogtown / Z-Flex.

This 1970s Alva went for $455. A high price, but it’s a classic complete board.

This Dogtown Bigfoot went for a low $700-probably because of the griptape job on top-it covers up the classic DTS logo that should be there.

This Dogtown Bigfoot went for a much more realistic $1385. It is in perfect shape: that is, apart from the Tony Hawk autograph!

Original Z-Flex decks always go for big $, and rightfully so. This one fetched $330.

80\’s

Moving on to the early 80s, this Santa Cruz Steve Olson complete fetched a healthy $305. Classic Cheap Trick/Fast Times stylee.

This very nondescript Kryptonics P-Tex fetched a big $213.50. I don’t think this deck was made of wood. It was some kind of injected plastic I believe. Maybe it was fiberglass. Whatever. It’s ugly.

This hideous Sims Dave Andrecht went for $342. Dig the new wave graphics. Bitchin’. Also dig the half-inch nose. (This thing has tobe really rare. I’m surprised it didn’t go higher – k.ed)

Sticking with Sims, here’s one you will all remember: the first Lester model. This complete fetched a moderate $244. Lester decks aren’t very collectible apparently.

ere’s another classic from Kryptonics. The first Godoy brothers model. This must be very collectible, because it went for a whopping $576. Dig the horns baby. The finger is pointing to Texas.

Early SMA decks are always popular with collectors, as is shown by the price paid for this early Jef Hartsel. A whopping $461. (This is hindsight as I reformat these old eBay watches. I’m no expert but this looks like a later era SMA deck. – k.ed)

Moving onto Schmitt Stix, remember this classic, the Joe Lopes BBQ model? This near mint deck went for $227.50. Not bad.

Another classic Schmitt Stix deck was this John Lucero. This complete went for $280. Dig the tail bone.

Remember this generic looking Schmitt Stix deck? It was called the Twig Stix. Not popular, as this complete only fetched $137. . (Maybe the pile of dirty laundry on the floor affected the sale price – k.ed)

Santa Cruz

Now moving on to Santa Cruz. Jim Phillips was responsible for most of the Santa Cruz graphics in the mid 80s, and made some of my favorites of all time. This Jason Jessee deck is very rare and the price showed it: $365.

Another classic is the Corey O’Brien first pro deck, the grim reaper, and it is a great favorite of mine. This was too rich for me though, going for a large $300.

The Roskopps always go for big green, which still confuses me. Maybe there were so many of them that collecting every version is tough. Who knows? Anyway, this complete went for $255 despite the crappy condition.

This Salba is a far superior deck, and is mint, but only went for $102. Strange. There are a lot of them out there though.

Moving on to the Santa Cruz Natas models. This one fetched a healthy $344, and some think it was his best graphic. I don’t agree, but hey.

This is another mid-period Natas, but this was a limited edition graphic, numbered by the artist I believe. You don’t see them very often, and not in this condition. The price showed it: $499.

Even the last Natas made by Santa Cruz, the psycho cat, goes for decent green. This one fetched $152. It is in mint condition though, and the natural color is awesome.

A company that isn’t popular (with collectors) is G&S for some reason. This mint condition Chris Miller only fetched $141, which surprises me.

/span> An even bigger bargain was this G&S Bill Tocco. I know he’s not a huge name, but $51? Come on!

Another bargain was this Uncle Wiggley deck that only fetched $57. It’s plain and a little beat up, but rare nonetheless.

One of the biggest surprises was this Powell Per Welinder mint deck going for $100. It’s a great graphic and a nice shape. I guess it just slipped through the cracks.

Finally this month, how about this piece of skate history: a Sims Pure Juice team jersey from the 70s! Surprisingly it only fetched $87, but then again, anyone under 35 probably doesn’t even know it’s skateboard related!
