Hangin’ with a cool bunch

That’s right. Stick anything on a skateboard to make it look cool, hip, young, and dare I say… EXTREME! So extreme that a mere cell phone camera couldn’t quite capture this Dole banana box without a blur. – Thanks to John Aguilar for the snap.

Oregon to Skatopia

Dave Tobin drove a motorhome full of Oregon skaters back to Ohio for a Dreamland pour at the Skatopia complex. Dave says Brewce seems well and it looks like a fun trip. Mark Scott, Little John, Q-man, Jay Meer are along for the trip. Dave Hupp is documenting the trip for a forthcoming secret PowerRider project but Tobin managed to sneak us a few phonecam shots of the trip.

Rolling Exhibition

What are you looking at?

Kevin Connolly was born without legs. While you’re staring at Kevin Connolly, rolling down the street on his skateboard, he may be staring back at you through the lens of his camera. He’s got a body of photos called The Rolling Exhibition that consist of the photos he’s taken in 15 countries while rolling around on a skateboard, all shot from his low point of vantage. He’s been at it for a while, obviously. I’m late with this post because I couldn’t decide whether or not it was skateboard-related enough. Now I’m feeling negligent because the story is popping up all over, so here it is. Kevin’s photos are mostly about people staring at him, a legless man on a skateboard: Everyone tries to create a story in their heads to explain the things that baffle them. For the same reason we want to know how a magic trick works, or how mystery novel ends, we want to know how someone different, strange, or disfigured came to be as they are. Everyone does it. It’s natural. It’s curiosity… …But before any of us can ponder or speculate – we react. We stare. Whether it is a glance or a neck…

More Brasil

Brazil in your face. Spot check continued.

Ryan Hass hipped us to these shots, dude. They were taken in Rio at a pedestrian underpass south of the Flamingo Park. You can see full frame enalarged versions at Ramp Locals Only. Brasil – Brazil… Next thing you know we’ll have to start calling it Myanmar instead of Burma. I mean, George W doesn’t bother, why should we? (Warning! You have just experienced sarcasm.)

India Bowl

India Bowl

Through a random act of Google, while searching the web for pictures of David Lee Roth on a skateboard (no joke!) a stumbled on Mohammad Burney’s travel pictures. Man this guy travels a lot. Japan, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Morocco, Malaysia, New York, Kuwait, Egypt, England and India, which is where the bowl above resides. One of the three pictures (1, 2, 3) Shows that it is some sort of astronomical observational tool. Check out that coping. If you decide to ride this bowl and are take a chance on getting stoned to death by an angry mob, at least use copers. I’m not sure how Google pulled up this page in my search for “David Lee Roth” and “skateboard,” but it did. There’s a way to view it with comments enabled, and he’s essentially got reams and reams of comment spam. Maybe that’s where it came from.
