Old legends never die, but their girlfriends do.
Apparently, killers are kosher again for legendary Vision Skateboards. You used to be able to get Mark Rogowski’s shape with the word “Vision” in place of skateboarding’s most famous murderer. Market research must have proven that the public has a short term memory for distasteful acts such as rape and assault, but a long term love for nostalgia. Now you can get the Gator re-issue board as it was in his glory days. No word on where those royalty checks are going. Yes, It’s a proud legacy.
JR Neves – R.I.P.
East coast favorite and former Spitfire pro JR Neves passed away saturday, still no official cause of death. This is a detail from a Brooks Fritz shot of Neves at FDR back in 2005. Be sure to check out the whole image at Skateboard-revolution.com. Deluxe has posted an old video part as well.
Sponsor Luv: Weirdo Skateboards
This is Weirdo Skateboards rider, test pilot and representative Tom Beeson The photo was shot by Dwayne Sackey at the Berkeley Skatepark in Berkeley, CA. Get some hot, weird action.
Skater in a box
I don’t know which former powerhouse brand has fallen further from grace. Nash, Variflex, Vision or now Kryptonics. If this concept had come from World Industries in the 90’s I would have praised it as the pinnacle of satire. Instead, the aptly named Skater in a Box is toy store/sporting goods fodder without irony. Still, I might need to get one of these: Skateboarding is an image; no one wants to be or look like a poser. That’s why the Kryptonics Skater In a Box has everything you need to fit the part of a real skateboarder… …Add in your Kryptonics skull beanie, chain wallet, and wristband and you’ll have everything you need to hit the skatepark or the streets. The board graphic is quite clever, actually. All of these items can be yours for about 60 bucks, so you know the quality is not an issue.
Don’t forget to skate
Yes, good advice indeed, found on the insides of these new Vans designed by a Dutch designer going by Parra. Now if someone could just write that on the tag of all those Indy t-shirts. There’s an interview with Parra and some pictures of his work over on Fecal Face. [Source: Leased Ferrari Photo right: HighSnobiety]
Friday T&A on S&A: I Wish they all could be… David Lee Roth
OK people, I’m going to keep finding excuses to link to this David Lee Roth game until someone acknowledges it’s awesomeness. It’s already appeared twice without mention, so I’m through with subtlety. And so is California Girls Skateboards, an idea that is only missig Diamond Dave as a spokesman. Bikini Girls with skateboards, on skateboards. One of the models is April, 2001 Playmate of the Month Katie Lohman, who “loves skateboarding” and will prove it to you in a wobbly video after the jump – She’s no Keeani Lei. You have to check out the video with the owner of the company too, it’s priceless. – Thanks to Michael Brooke for the tip.
But the shark bites are brutal
Don’t worry, these guys didn’t send me anything, I’ve always been a fan of the Slasher graphic. I’m pretty sure that some smaller companies have already done the sword shaped skateboard, but for Santa Cruz it seems like an obvious choice. I’m actually more surprised that this board doesn’t have Keith Meek’s name on it instead of Emmanuel Guzman, especially considering the Meekster’s still active in their lineup. Speaking of the lineup, Monthly eBay favorite Jason Jesse’s Neptune board had been reissued.
Dekline of Skate and Annoy Impartiality
Dekline sent me a nice pair of shoes to review. This is my very transparent way of thanking them. Check out this short video welcoming Matt Bennett, Austin Stephens and Diego Bucchieri to their team. [Source SkateDaily.net]
Learn to Ollie, Buster
Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk… The latest skateboard gadget in the grand tradition of sky hooks, rubber bands and magnets is the Ollie Buster, an elaborate setup that allows you to hold the board to your feet with the aid of some rubber tubing, a handle and a gratuitous skateboard wheel thrown in for extra weight. Reminds me a little of those fake yo-yos that were made with an internal spring to expand and contract the string. You know, for the truly lazy. Geez, I guess this is the same concept as Guitar Hero or Rock Band, and I am guilty of enjoying the hell out of those. Did I ever tell you about the time I was the weak link in (almost) every band I was ever in? The best part about the Ollie Buster web site is on the Goin’ Big skateboard moves where the kid opens up his Ollie Buster in the parking lot and nonchalantly throws all his trash to the wind. Now that’s realism! – Thanks to Robert for the tip.
The Powell board you never saw
This is a closeup of a bootleg Powell Peralta deck with a Per Welinder themed graphic on the bottom. If that’s not enough, it has a Tony Hawk graphic on the top. It’s from an old 80’s Brazilian skateboard magazine sent in by Luciano Fleck Peixoto. It’s funny that the bootleggers thought they had to improve on the originals. Thanks to Luciano for sending this in. Check out his new skateboard company called Yerbah.
