Friday T&A on S&A: Bikini Girl skates pool
She says: I hope I don’t break my neck! Yeah, that would be a real, uh, shame.
Friday T&A on S&A: More Olympic ads
After last week’s post on saucy skateboard ads from the ’70s (UK vs US), the editor of Vintage Skateboard Magazines was kind enough to send in some scans he hadn’t gotten around to publishing yet.
Friday T&A on S&A: Vintage Skateboard Ads
US vs. UK edition
Aww, to hell with it. We’re already on a bunch of content blocking filters. Vintage Skateboard Magazines has a bunch of ads archived. On the left is a 1979 Dogtown advert from a US publication, where you can only show the cleavage. On the right is an advert for Olympic Skateboards in an unnamed UK publication that is a lot more cheeky. Love that site. Daniel has a standing invitation to have the archives hosted at Skate and Annoy if he ever decides it’s time for VSM to give up the ghost.
Friday T&A on S&A: ERA Now!
And the winner for the highest glass ceiling on a skatepark builder’s concrete team has got to go to Airspeed. This is a detail of one of their pictures of recent progress at the Gabriel Park site. There’s probably a woman on another concrete crew out there somewhere else, but three? Yes, I know there are women involved with skatepark building companies in other positions, I’m talking about the work crews specifically. Airspeed is cranking on Gabriel Park. Check it out. Update: EPM has some new construction shots. – Thanks to Sonny for the tip.
Friday T&A on S&A: Joyce Blair
I originally saw this gal in a 2006 Time Magazine photo essay on skateboarding titled Hot Wheels. The caption said “Groovy: Singer Joyce Blair strikes a pose with her board in Hyde Park, London, in 1965.” I guess Joyce was a singer, dancer and actress. She even appeared on the Benny Hill Show. I couldn’t find any information about this publicity shoot, although I did find two images on a site that shows you images that are for looking at but not using, which is the vague way they are trying to get around the fact that these are from the Getty Images collection. So, yeah, that’s my reasoning too. Look at these images but don’t actually use them. For some reason they changed the location (and name) on the watermark. I just happened to have the old ones saved so I was able to piece together a clean one without the photoshop clone stamp.
Friday T&A on S&A: Transworld Pin Ups
So apparently Transworld had (has?) some sort of Pin Up of the Month. My subscription lapsed… some years ago, so I don’t know if it’s ongoing. As part of their business model, the idea of a Transworld Skateboarding Pin Up Girl is pretty ironic, considering Transworld was supposedly started as a backlash to some of the more racy content and adverts that were appearing in Thrasher in the early 80’s. Well that, and to make money of course. Here’s a behind the scenes video of one of the photo shots. Classy. I mean, I know we’re posting it here on Skate and Annoy, but it seems so out of place in Transworld. Think of the lost shoe advertisement revenue!
Friday T&A on S&A: Samaire Armstrong
Is Samaire Armstrong a celebrity? Maybe not-so-much, but she was in Not Another Teen Movie (Warning, that link is a buzzkill.) and was a regular on The O.C. for a while as well. She posed for some pinup pictures in Stuff Magazine and Maxim, which are both owned by the same company. In an interview she said she regretted agreeing to both photo sessions, and subsequently fired her managers for talking her into it, among other things. Sounds like a weak excuse. I imagine she regretted being forced to pose with plastic skateboards from the 70’s. Works for me though. Maxim decided fight back by removing the pictures from their website. I pulled these off of a site called Sk8 the Planet.
Friday T&A on SnA: Hawt prefab concrete action
I was in the skate park video taping my friend Tito (the small kid wearing black) when pell, my friends sister, and aweosme make-out artist, Pell gets on her skate bored and steals Titos spotlight Yes this is a weak post, but this short video totally made me laugh, all things considered. I guess I need to create a Friday T&A category. I got the idea from EPM.
Friday T&A on SnA: Jenna does Zoo York
If I had checked my Google alerts in the past month I might have already known that Zoo York (Not a fan) is planning a Jenna Jameson model. To promote it, they had somebody craft this really clever advert (Am a fan). To write about it, I made a not-so-clever and extremely obvious reference to the title of a world famous adult film. To illustrate it, I took the advert and butchered it to fit in our size constraints. Sorry guys. They did such a good job they are getting lots of attention in the advertising world. When is it, err, coming? No word. Head to the source to see the whole thing… uh, larger. [Source: Nick Papageorgia(!) on Why Me]
Friday T&A on SnA: Cocoa Beach
Well, not really. Lance Robson sent in a link to more coverage of the 2008 Florida Bowl Riders Cup at Cocoa Beach via his photo set on Flickr. Top down that’s Benji Galloway (Yeah Benji coverage!) Donovan Rice, and Jesse Martinez. And yes, Hooters was an official sponsor, something I learned on Tim Ebaugh’s slide show. How about some Hooters girl-on-girl-on-longboard action? Wait a minute, two girls riding the same, uh, err… longboard. But doesn’t that make them kooks? I’m conflicted. To recap: A slideshow from Photographer Tim Ebaugh.
