Mongonex
So bummed out. I had sketched out and idea to do pretty much the exact same thing, but like pretty much everything else, no time to do it. The folks at DVS came up with a good one. It’s pretty well executed. I would have put actual mongo skate footage in the spot, but they stuck true the genre of the commercials, never actually showing the problem just showing the people who suffer from it. And who am I kidding, the production values on this are 10 times better than anything with the S&A name on it. That’s part of my New Year’s resolution, to get back to more original content and actually produce some of the ideas that have been collecting dust. This bit is one of a series of videos in the same vein that are part of a really vague contest they are having called InNovation whether the idea is to invent something or come up with an idea or don’t do anything. Like I said, it’s vague. – Thanks to Greg Baller for the tip.
Mean Jeans: Steve Don’t Party No More
Check out the video for “Steve Don’t Party No More” from Portland’s Mean Jeans. Buy their CD titled “Are you Serious” from the always entertaining Dirtnap Records. – Thanks to Heath and Rick for the tip.
Gingers and Photobucket
Photobucket is such a POS. You can link directly to an image, but if you want to link to the album containing it, they password protect it. What’s the point? This is a detail from a Gingers infographic.
Radical Nerd!
Absolutely no information on this video shot off a TV screen at all. I was going to guess late 70’s for this, but I’m thinking it may be a mid- 80’s vid with some old props. Nerd and Destroy. – Thanks to Andrew Mendoza for the tip.
Jay Meerkats
The Telegraph (UK) “reports” that the new Maverick Meerkats calendar is available. I hate it when web sites try to protect their scans (of other people’s images) with a bunch of overlayed divs designed to keep you from downloading the image. Come back here in a year and I’ll probably be doing the same thing. Isn’t there a there a Cure album called Meerkats? I like that little raccoon/weasel doing the rock and roll. He reminds me of Bone Man. – Thanks to Anders Knudsen for the tip.
Tarp Surfing
No matter what your personal feelings towards taking this seriously, you have to admit it’s a genius dork session. I especially like the stand up paddler. They did so well on some of these simulations, but totally blew it with the choice of soundtrack. Flame on. – Thanks to Darryl and Ben Reese for the tip
Skirdoosh!
This video would be pretty good if only these guys had a sense of humor, some skills on a skateboard and a fake corporate sponsor of course.
Friday T&A on S&A: Lonely for Tony
I can’t even find the original source for this image. Let this be a lesson to whoever gave birth to this very droll illustration. Next time don’t forget to put your name on it. – Thanks to Colin for the tip.
What can you make out of two crappy dots?
The secret word is “do.” Season 5, epsiode 9. I’ve owned this for 4 years and I finally got around to watching this episode. I’ve got my kids trained to tell me anytime there’s a skateboard on TV. “Daddy, Daddy! There’s a skateboard on TV!” Usually it’s a Sketchers commercial. There’s another episode in season one where Pee Wee briefly pulls out a plastic skateboard and says something like “Oh! A skateboard! Ha ha!” Of course my kids managed to crack that that DVD. This episode caught me by surprise. I saw Pee Wee back on David Letterman (?) a while back. I hear they are talking about making another movie. Pee Wee’s Playhouse was the shiznit.
Start Earth Day posts… NOW
Yeah, I know it’s not Earth Day today, but it should be, becaue I’m going to be recycling a bunch of items that most of you have probably already seen. First up, this hilarious Skate Hipster Bingo card that I saw on Gone in an Instant, but everyone else and their mother saw on on Sleestak, as you can tell by the watermark. And nobody seems to be crediting the creator, which was Excess skate zine, although you’d be hard pressed to tell by looking at the Excess blog. I think there is actually more pictures of road bikes on that site than skateboarding. What’s up with the crossover? I heard something about fixies on one of Colin’s recent radio shows. The Kyle Bunker episode is a good one. Getting back to hipsters, I picked up a copy of Thrasher in the airport on my recent trip to Florida. It’s pretty much the only time I read the mainstream mags. it seemed like a third of the dudes in there were sporting mustaches or beards. I’m rocking a bad stache myself lately. It started as a goof but the reaction has been so enthusiastic (and not always positive) that I…
