It’s April and one of our readers who wishes to remain anonymous just broke ground on a backyard bowl. Congratulations! Oh man, you’re going to be blown away. Ask MC about his post pour stoke level. Check out this week’s Shot of the Week, and try to guess where it is.

Yeah, the concrete is smooth, but there’s a frog in the coping. It’s been about a year since we first posted on Herman’s Hole. The second skate jam campout at the Hole is May 7th & 8th… in MIssouri!

The EPM Network has some pics of Tristen Reasor’s cool DIY bowl project in Oregon that is being hand stacked over several different pouring days, I imagine as fast as the funding allows. I’d love to have a spine in my back yard, how about you?

I got a lot of positive response from the time lapse of MC’s bowl pour, and one suggestion to bring it up to date with some actual skating. Well kids, the skating inside the bowl has been put on hold now that the tile is in mid process. Actually, the coping has go on before the wheels can hit the crete again. MC doesn’t want to risk cracking the top layer of tiles. I snapped some pics of the tile job last night.

This is a still from a time lapse video of a pour at MC’s backyard bowl on 6-6-09. The crew consisted of Deamland regulars and about 20 onlookers. Even at two frames a minute, I managed to catch the one time someone fell into the bowl, as seen above. I did miss the first 45 minutes of the operation. I as I was driving to Mark’s house house I was thinking “8:00… Well that’s when people will start showing up and milling around, figuring out what the plan is. I won’t be too late.” When I turned the corner on to Mark’s street, the first concrete truck was already blocking half the street. The last trowel was pretty much done around 4:00. The trees make it look like it’s in some lush tropical locale, but it’s just a backyard in Portland. The stills were taken with a laptop and a web cam, so the quality is fuzzy. You’ll notice the iSight camera had a hard time focusing too. The finished bowl is… beautiful! Those guys did amazing work, like a well oiled machine. Everyone knew what to do pretty much without being told. It was amazing to watch.
