Sleestock and Indy tour at LC

Lincoln City locals screwed this weekend

Lincoln City locals love their park, but unfortunately for them, so does everyone else. This weekend is gong put their patience to the test as the park is hosting both the annual Sleeestock, which is a weekend of debauchery and skateboarding, as well as an appearance by the 30th anniversary Independent Trucks tour on Sunday. Alas, my wife’s birthday is this weekend and she’s got visitors coming in from out of town, so I will be watching the kids and you’ll have to skate in the gravel parking lot without me. How do you type the sound effect for a whip?

70\'s power blog

Yabassi helmets and other quality skateboard accessories.

I think I found the 70’s Power blog while researching the Wham-O Wheelie Bar – because it looked like it had skateboard trucks on it. I couldn’t find a decent close up of the wheelie bar, but I did enjoy surfing 70’s Power. It’s kind of like the 4Q blog if you replace the motorcycles with old VW’s and rewrite a lot of text in French. A few items of interest clockwise: Quality Skateboard Accessories manufactured by Jupiter International out of Bellevue, Washington!, Yabassi skateboard helmets. I can’t find anything about them on the web, can anyone elaborate? Lastly, some of the vintage skateboard collection belonging to the guys who post to the blog.

GVK#32 - Cold War Projekt 08

Grover’s Video Korner #32: Cold War Projekt 08

So here’s the why I did it. Not my typical GVK but some of my most difficult work. It took forever to put this thing together. I don’t know if it is even done but I am sick of working on it. Just remember, I did it for you my fan. Let me know what you think. Posse out.

Bacon in Sweden

Swedish Bacon

Colin went to Sweden and all I got was this picture of a bunch of smelly dudes in a car instead of their famous bikini team I keep hearing about. That’s the Swedish Bikini team, not the Bacon Bikini team. (Shudder!) But seriously folks… I’m going to beat that joke like a dead horse. He actually did take pictures. The occasion for the road plane trip was the Bowl Rider’s Cup in Malmo. He said something about “epic,” so give him some time to assemble his thoughts and do some typing.

SOTW 6-23-08: Skate Demo at 1982 Iowa State Fair

SOTW 6-23-08: 1982 Iowa State Fair demo

This week’s Shot of the Week is Lewis “Iowask8er” Brundige skating a demo on a quarterpipe at the 1982 Iowa State Fair. There are so many small things that add up to make this a great shot. There’s the combination of the Van Halen t-shirt and Joan Jett sticker on the bottom of the board juxtaposed with “Disneyland” on the tail. Then there’s the quarter pipe demo. Lewis must have had to push his ass off to get that high up. It’s a nice size air, as you can see by the shadow of the photographer and ramp on the asphalt. Lewis is still skating, and has a page full of skate video info as well as a collection of mostly vintage photos. Check out this week’s Shot of the Week.

Beans – The Tim Brauch Documentary

He’s got a foundation, a skatepark, and a contest named after him, and he’s been honored by the Smithsonian, but what do you really know about Tim Brauch? Pete Koff is producing a documentary for release in 2009. He’s looking for your stories and photos of Tim to make this community project and help round out the documentary. More information and the trailer after the jump.

Slalom at the Oregon State Games

State (skate) Games of Oregon

The State Games of Oregon have been organizing “amateur Olympic-style competitions for all ages and skill levels” since 1986. They claim 38 sports and 16,000 athletes, so it’s quite an affair. Skateboarding (in the form of Slalom) has been part of the agenda for the last three years. There were three days of slalom events this weekend, including something intriguing called “slalom cross” which looks like it’s head to head on the same set of cones. Sounds like fun to enter or watch. The Statesman Journal has an article and photo gallery. Come on, don’t be so uptight. Slalom can be fun. – Thanks to Judy Oyama for the tip.
