Skate and Annoy: Daily
Rad-ish
Skateboarding radish that is sort of radish, from Shirt Woot. – Thanks to Nick Dawson for the tip.
Skate Out
Skate Out is a super 8 film circa 1978. It’s got everything: street, skateparks, downhill and freestyle. I was 11 years old in 1978 and was skating a little and going to the parks with my friends. This is the first part of the a super-8 movie I made. These guys went on to form the foundation of Nor Cal skating but when this was shot, we were all just kids. Good stuff, but parts of the soundtrack are NSFTD*. – Thanks to John Drummond for send ing me this tip back in… 2009!
L.A. Bans the Bomb
L.A. is going to ban bombing hills after two recent deaths. This is also bad news for Portland skaters fighting a similar ban in the Zoo Bomb neighborhood, although the ban isn’t an outright skateboard ban. They just want skateboarders to observe the traffic laws like stop signs and speed limits. Really, you can’t blame them for that. Portland’s coalition is asking for the same thing in lieu of an outright ban. The end result is that it will still be illegal to have a speed run downhill. Skateboarders aren’t usually prone to following rules and regulations regarding our useless wooden toys. Serious hill bombing will still happen, but maybe it will keep some of the yahoos away. Botan Rice Candy, 3.4 oz
Botan Rice Candy comes with a free sticker, this one courtesy of MC’s offspring. Even larger after the jump. The sticker, not the offspring.
Melody will get yer goat, but you’ll be Happie
Pretty easy to have the record if you’re the only one doing it. I predict Dyrek will be visiting the Goat mills soon to make sure this, uh, respected honor belongs to a real skateboarder. Basically, the goat jumps on the skateboard and stands still until the momentum dies. I think I’ll see if I can train a squirrel to do the same thing so I can get on TV. Yes, this story was picked up by local news networks. Ladies and gentlemen, the Guiness World Record holding skateboarding goat. [Source: Boingboing] – Thanks to Danimal and others for the tip.
Selling the hole!
It’s getting pretty hard to think of new ways to sell old skateboards now that goods made from recycled skateboards are a hot commodity. Maple XO has figured out a way to make use of the part of the skateboard that isn’t actually there! That’s right, mounting holes.
Meet Jacob
He works in the web marketing department of American Apparel. There’s pictures of him skating on the American Apparel web site and newsletter. I thought that board was the old designer SMA board at first glance, the one with the feathers. Jacob is seven clicks to your left on the Back to School/Reality look book.
