Skate and Annoy: Daily
Oi! Jacko!
I have no idea who Oi! Jacko Gym was, but near as I can tell by this picture, he must have been some sort of middle aged, weight lifting Sting impersonator from Australia. He’s not content to just ride a skateboard, he’s got to lift weights at the same time. The box commands you to “Do your push-ups with Jacko.” Can I just skip them instead? Also, I’m not so sure about the “Make & Do” booklet. It sounds like some sort of toddler potty training record. It looks like he may have been the Australian mascot for Energizer.
Happy Birthday Steve
Random birthday cake I took a picture of in 2011 at the bakery my wife worked at when she was in high school… in the 80’s. Would have been a good one for ole GVK’s birthday last month, but it’s kind of stale now. Then again, so is he… Nice of the miniature cake police to cordon off the area with emergency barricades to contain the radical action.
Nyjah Huston for GQ
Here’s a short video with some behinds the scenes action on a Nyjah Huston photoshoot for GQ Magazine. I haven’t actually seen a copy of the magazine in some time, but if the web site is any indication, it looks like it’s turning into People magazine, not very sophisticated. If you watch the video on Youtube you will literally get bombarded with overlays asking you to subscribe, like and share videos with your friends, as if they are targeting an early teen audience. It’s totally at odds with their public image, and a little bit like the old SNL Newsforce skit. I can’t show you that skit, you’ll need a Hulu Plus account, but you can watch the Nyjah Huston video without popups after the jump. He looks really comfortable, like he could have a career fallback option in fashion. – Thanks to Sarib Khalsa for the tip.
Simon Woodstock talks clowns
A Simon Woodstock interview coming on Friday. He won’t be rehashing his whole career, rather focusing on some clowning around. To get you in the mood, here’s an old Fisher Price puzzle of a clown on a skateboard, circa 1992. Perfect!
Which one is worse?
Interent trolls or skateboard trolls? Skateboarding trolls on the internet.
Pete the Cat
I found Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons at a school book fair. It’s published by HarperCollins. Pete was created by Kimberly & James Dean, but this book was written by Eric Litwin. It turns out Pete has been skating since his appearance on the cover of Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day Is Cool.
Skull, skates
Light Goes On is a combination of long exposure photographs (light painting) and stop action animation made by Darren Pearson. Clever beyond belief. Watch it after the jump. [Source: DP Preview] – Thanks to Glenn Corpes for the tip.
You’ve got mail
I was cleaning my house the offices of Skate and Annoy over the weekend. I found a ton of SASE requests for stickers stuffed away in various mouse holes, some… very old. The stack you see does not include the 10 or so that I found after I took this photo. So, much to the annoyance of my mail carrier, your stickers are on the way. The selection is dwindling. I think it’s time to make some new ones.
