SOTW 8-16-10: Andy Macdonald at Pier Park

Going over the mouse hole in Pier Park is pretty gnarly. Andy Macdonald made it over in his first try this year, I assume he made it over last year too. Andy took some video with a helmet cam for those of us who will likely never see the view from up there. Once you get to the point where it’s no sweat to make it over frontside or backside, what else is there? How about this frontside boardslide over the top? Steve Grover captured it with his point and shoot. Watch the video after the jump or check out the full size Shot of the Week. UPDATE: Alternate views now available over on Earth Patrol Media.

Friday T&A on S&A: A natural lifesyle

I think it was Scott Starr who tipped me off to the existence of a 60’s era nudist lifestyle magazine with some skateboard shots in it. He’s hoarding them for a skateboard book that’s all pre- 70’s. I’ve heard about some of the things he’s unearthed, and it promises to be amazing, although he will have some competition from another book in the works, but more on that later. (No, it’s not from me.) All of this has nothing to do with where I found this, which was on Wooden Toy Publishing. I can’t link directly to it because for some reason they don’t have permalinks set up. Every time they update everything gets pushed further back and the urls change. Look for it on the June 21st, 2010 edition of Happy Mondays. I emailed them earlier in the week to see if they had any background information to share and I haven’t heard back yet. Very tame (unless you are offended by cellulite) but NSFW after the jump.

Bring a note from your mom or your wife

The Turf may be filled in, but the momentum is not dead. The same station that covered the digging out effort aired an editorial (Ted’s Take) coming down on WDOT bureaucracy. There’s an official web site for the voce of saving the Turf, appropriately named Save the Turf. The Mayor of Greenfield, (It’s technically not Milwaukee, I always forget that.) seems to be cautiously in the corner of the effort. Wisconsin’s DOT seems to be passing the buck. Their stance is that they need the land as a staging area until the off ramp is finished, at which point the land is scheduled to be given to the city of Greenfield. So theoretically, if they cover it with enough rubble so it doesn’t get further damaged, when the project is over they could dig it out again and repair it. Ted’s Take after the jump, or head on over to Save the Turf.

Movies at the (skate) park

Portland Parks and Rec does a summertime happy good time event where they play movies after dark in public parks. This Friday (the 13!) at Glenhaven park in Portland, next to the skatepark. They have one of those big inflatable movie screens, on which they will be showing Deathbowl to Downtown. See how many times you can see my name misspelled in the credits. I contributed the skateboard commercial footage. Ouch. I just broke my arm trying to pat myself on the back.

It’s called an anaglyph

I’ve seen these red and blue 3D images since I was a wee lad, but I just now learned there was a word for them. Dan Springer made two woodcut print blocks out of skateboards and used them to print an anaglyph. The boards and the print were sold at a charity auction. Very cool. Reminds me of the stereoscopic anaglyph issue of Contort (skate zine) that Dan Estabrook put out in the late 80’s. See what Dan Springer is up to at Skul Luxe. [Source: Wooden Toy Publishing]

SOTW 8-9-10: Bonsor Nosepicker

This week’s shot of the week comes from repeat offender Dylan Davies. Here’s a shot of his friend Jeremie at Bonsor skatepark in Vancouver B.C.. I don’t know if that’s lens flare or a light leak in the lower left hand corner, but it looks great. Check out the Shot of the Week

B.S.S.S.S

It stands for Brooklyn Street Skate Spot Shots, what else? Super funs spot. Easy to ride, but the tech guys can get all techy if they want. There is no drama with opposing build crews, just a miscommunication is all. On Saturday they raised over $150 bucks. I’m lobbying for a runway on the other side of the volcano so goofy footers can hit it frontside easier. Fun for all ages. Way to go guys.
