SOTW 1-23-12: Aaron Daly
This week’s Shot of the Week is from Garric Ray. Check out Aaron Daly in Portland, not getting harassed by security guards.
Skateboarders win civil suit in Portland
ESPN reports via Portland local Garric Ray that two Portland skateboarders assaulted by a security guards at Portland’s Pioneer Park finally settled the civil suit against the security company out of court. It’s been going on for a couple of years. I remember getting a tip about it when it first happened, so I checked it out. At first it was being spun as a skaters assaulting the security guards and I passed on it. Garric interviews one of the plaintiffs Brian Baca over at ESPN. That’s Brian above in a photo by Ray. I’m not sure why Garric didn’t chose to break this story directly on S&A instead of ESPN. I’m sure we pay nearly as much as ESPN… Quick, what’s double of nothing? Video of the original incident via Transworld after the jump.
College
American Council on Education and the Lumina Foundation got together to start an ad campaign to get kids prepped for college via something called KnowHow2Go. Enter “Chelsea” who knows “Learning how to kickflip takes hard work. So does getting into college.” Looks like a recipe for lameness, except Chelsea has skills. and is legit. Nice job Chelsea. – Thanks to Billy Duong for the tip.
Sponor Luv: Rip City – Skate for free!
Skate and Annoy welcomes Rip City Skate to the site as a sponsor, so that means we’re going all longboarding, all the time! Just kidding. Rip City Skate has been in Portland since 2009 and focuses primarily on local Portland brands. “Rip City Skate supports local riders, events, and brands with the intention of promoting the Portland skate scene on a global level. Our crew destroys every type of terrain from street to downhill and we encourge all skateboarders to SKATE EVERTHING!” And by “everything” they even mean the shop. The bowl adjacent to the shop is now free to skate “while supplies last.” It may be torn down at the end of the month, so get some while you can. Here’s another view from the flipside. If you can’t make it to Portland,, Rip City does internet sales too. [Photos: Earth Patrol Media]
The Smith’s energy is quite jocular.
Sport sails allow you to use a shorter board on downhill runs so you don’t, you know, look like a kook. Title quote comes from about 2:40. It was either that or “I’d love to see this in the Olympics.” – Thanks to Ashley Mott for the tip.
Been sick…
I’ve been sick all week, which is why MC’s comics are piling up. But I’m back. Here’s something else I’m sick of. It’s some random Steven Reeves footage. I’m sick of his general good-nature, well rounded skateboarding and lack of attitude. A nice guy with skills. what a jerk, right? Footage came from some one at Skate One so you’d think it would be a Bones Wheels promo but there’s no branding or anything. It’s literally old footage. Enjoy, and expect regular broadcasting to resume on Monday.
SOTW 1-9-11: Brooklyn Street with Andy Anderson
This week’s Shot of the Week is Andy Anderson flying through Brooklyn Street Skate Spot in Portland, Oregon as shot by Micah Breshears. I usually fight the urge to crop and change the aspect ratio of a photograph, but in this case I prefer a different view. Andy Anderson? I once knew a guy whose dad was named Stan S. Stanley, and you know what the “s” stands for.
