GVK #50: The Mayor of Skatetown
I went to my hometown in Michigan on July10th and hooked up with my old friend, David Scot Campbell. He is by far the biggest skate influence in my life. In Michigan in 1986 he was doing stuff you would see in California skate magazines with little or no live example. He has weathered all of skateboarding’s highs and lows riding through the whole mess, and I mean from the beginning. Dave enjoyed a little notoriety at the end of the vert era when he was picked up by Santa Cruz skateboards. His talents are showcased in the video “Troops of Tomorrow”. Even though vert skating died, Dave kept skating underground because there was no upper ground. He continues to ride to this day and will ride until it’s physically impossible. I’m proud to have him as a life-long team member of Cold War Skateboards.
GVK#49: For grandmothers only
I almost did not make this on my son has improved so much over the course of 6 months this is almost hard to watch if you saw him skate yesterday. I’m sure some people will enjoy this Grandmothers and older relatives and maybe Wes. It chronicles our trip to So Cal in the fall of (08). At the time I had to lie to get jack in to all the skate parks as the minimum age was 6 and he was 4. Enjoy? – DADDY OUT.
GVK# 48: Burnside Nontest Benefit
Yo, loyal viewers. Here is just the opposite of the big pool party (Protec) in California, The second Burnside non-test. No stars, no free guitars, just local skate studs and mall graders. This thing really felt like some sort of family reunion. Even though I do not ride there that much anymore, people are always welcoming. I was only there for about a half hour so I am sure I missed a ton of good footage, but here is what I captured. P.S. What is Q’s secret for such a strong looking body?
GVK#47: 2008 Oregon Trifecta Part 2
The second installment (See part one) in the trifecta series. This was a great contest. Skateboarding is not a sport but this was real competition. This was also the best run of the series. It has become a regular thing we all look forward to during the dog days of summer. Hope to see yall there. We will leave the light on and keep the damn raccoon out my truck. Out Grover.
GVK#46: Spring Broken 2009
I can’t believe anyone still wants to see this besides me and my friends. I had the day off so I decided to finish the 1st of the Spring Break (09) series. It may be the last also. There are a lot of parks and riders in here, I bet you cant name them all. Consider it a GVK challenge. That ought to boost my internet rating. Winner gets a personal dinner with the editor clothing optional! – GVK Adios.
GVK#45: The Bryce Kanights Interview
So am I legit now. I interviewed a piece of skateboard history and future. Whether you know it or not, Bryce Kanights has touched your skateboard life in some way, be it reading, riding or looking at a magazine for the photos. Bryce was there for most of the boom of vert and has been in it since; when you were taking your snowboarding break he was skating and still involved with Thrasher. If you mention the most random skater he has a story. Very few people can make a living off this industry – the photo side anyway – but he has perfected his craft and shoots all the skate stars from Duane Peters to Brent Atchley. So here is my interview of Mr. Bryce Kanights. A brief glimpse into his stuff. P.S. Eat it if you do not like the audio. Who can afford a microphone in this economy? – G.V.K. OFF
GVK #44: Trifecta ’08: In your Facebook.
Here is part one of Trifecta (08), Rando got to see the rough version and could barley sit through it because of the music. At that moment I knew I had done something Good. “In your Face” So If I missed you name let me Know so I can add it in. The best Trifecta ever. I am watching kids grow up and become great skaters. Someday I will walk into a skate shop with my son and say we watched that guy at the Trifcta Now he is bigger than Ryan Schekler but not as lame. – Pose Grover out?
GVK #43: Young Goons
I have been sitting on this footage for sometime, I stumbled on it the other day while doing some cyber house cleaning and decided to make a GVK out of it. I really like skating with these guys they are a good krew. My old friend Earth Patrol Media was manning the moving picture box, we were originally going to do dueling videos to see what the other guy would do with the same footage, who knows maybe old EPM will still do it I hope he does. Enjoy. GVK OUT…
GVK #42: St. Kilwag’s Day
Birth Day Grinch: Video proof of a skateboarding caveman. A man so old carbon dating can not determine his age. Happy Birthday, Dude!
GVK #41: AST Dew Tour. Vert is..
So Rich of E.P.M. and myself managed a couple press passes out of the A.S.T. crew. As it turns out, video was not allowed, that only slowed me down a couple of times. They threatened to kick me out. I shouted “Do you know who I am?” Apparently they had not heard of G.V.K.. Talk about living under a rock, or not really being involved in skateboarding. (the riding side). You may notice a difference in video quality. That is because I checked out a Get HI Def video camera from the E.P.M. library. Wow, what a difference. Watch out Mack Dawg productions. Well this video made me want a vert ramp so bad. How about you? P.S. I went to San Diego and skated the ramp at the Y.M.C.A that where 80 percent of these guys ride. Vert is dying and becoming incestuous. Lets build some f-king ramps and take it back bizzellitch.. – Poser off.
