We’re off to see the wizard… That’s the creek jump in Hood River. Hard to tell how big the gap is, but I’m sure it’s going to be a hit, and a bummer for everyone that doesn’t clear it! Super cool feature, nonetheless. Thanks again to the lens of Hood River’s resident skateographer Carl Warren, we’ve got some more images of the work in progress. Looks like it’s getting pretty close to being done if they are pouring flat. Can’t wait to check it out. Can’t wait.

You might think it’s the ad copy from a marital aids catalog, but no, it’s a 1977 slogan from the makers of Squirt soda. This sticker was poached from Jason Liebig’s Flickr stream collection of pop culture. He’s the same guy responsible for putting all the vintage Christmas catalogs online, featured here on SnA. He must have a busy scanner.

It’s an even blacker day for the black-hearted. As a long time fan of the Cramps, I was saddened to learn of his death the other day. I had some photos from a Cramps show that I was going to post, but they were pre-digital camera and I can’t seem to find them in a timely manner. The only thing I have to offer instead is some mock ups of a Cramps skateboard that I was unsuccessful in getting the go ahead for manufacturing. The Cramps were still touring, and still putting on blistering live shows. Consider yourself lucky if you got to see one. Lux was a true original. Our thoughts go out to Poison Ivy. P.S. Yeah I know I let Ron Asheton’s recent passing go without remark, but we’re losing guys like this more and more, and I can’t always bring myself to post it. I did end up finding an advert for one of those old ice boards in a Skateboarder magazine, but I’ve got a few more vintage skateboards on snow contraptions to scan as well. What about snowboards on skate ramps? This is a flyer for Windells upcoming President’s Day weekend camp session with a snowboard on a good sized concrete quarterpipe. They also have skate-only prices for their indoor facilities this camp session. GVK always has fun there, how’s that for a celebrity endorsement? Travis Pastrana has a show coming out on MTV. This looks like it might have been filmed for that. Yes, a mega ramp jump on a Big Wheel, with a back flip thrown in for good measure. Nutty. Aside from electronics, these guys made some bitchin’ 10 speed bikes in the 70’s. It was always a little trippy to see a bike with the Panasonic logo, kind of like seeing a Harley Davidson with an AMF logo, (Bowl and destroy!) or I guess more like when the tire company Bridgestone made bikes. What’s the point? Ryan Sheckler has a signature headphone model with Panasonic. There’s a commercial on the web. I don’t know if it’s being shown on TV or not.

Mike Smith sent in these pictures of a recently acquired Sears Hot Dog skateboard from 1965. The reason I think is from 1965 is because it doesn’t appear in the 1964 or 1966 Sears catalog, and Scott Starr says 1965 was the big year for full page listings of skateboards in the toy catalogs. So was it the Mike Smith who sent the pictures in? I can’t say, because he didn’t answer. More, after the jump.
