Skateboard Action from Steve Hawk
Courtesy of Hood River’s own Carl Warren. His brother recently gave him this 1987 book written by Steve Hawk (Yes, he is.) with the stickers intact. Check out the wrap around rails on that Staab. More pages after the jump.
On a budget
You don’t need a stinking $1200 video camera. GVK, you should be ashamed of yourself. What can you do with a $40 camera from a pawn shop and a $30 fisheye adapter? Tyler Martin will show you, after the jump. The video has street skating, skateparks, private bowls, golfing, the Clash and car tow-ins. What else could you ask for? This isn’t a sponsor me vid, Tyler already has one.
Skreech Week: Day 2
Looks like we’ve actually got a full week. I was going to make it a “working week” since I usually don’t post on the weekends, but Addikt Skateboards has ponied up a full seven days of Skreech on the Full Bloom Tour. These shots are from a pool in Central Valley, or maybe the central Valley? Whatevs. Check it out after the jump. UPDATE: Added some bonus detail shots of the pool.
Skreech week on S&A
That’s right, he lived here for a short while, and now he’s gone. He recently returned from an Addikt Skateboards road trip known as the Full Bloom Tour. This is a Jon Yunker photo shot at Frank the Tank’s. Billy Runaway will be doling out one shot a day for the rest of the week, and I hear the rest of them are all pool locations. So, I thought it was “Screech” but apparently it’s “Skreech.” I guess Addikt would know. Now let’s get into an argument about whether this was a footplant or a fastplant. UPDATE: it was a fastplant to fakie, and a make.
Tom Knox on Concrete Disciples
There’s a lengthy interview with Tom Knox on Concrete Disciples, with the usual high quality photo work of MRZ. I flaked out on interviewing Tom around the time when the Veterans Division video came out a while back. I just couldn’t think of anything interesting to ask him since I didn’t know that much about him in the first place. Sorry Tom. Don’t worry Bryce and Jim, I won’t do the same with you. – Thanks to Larry Pescatore for the tip.
SOTW 6-15-09: Kowalski first over the face in Coos Bay
Kevin Kowalski made it over the face wall of the brand new Coos Bay skatepark last Saturday. It was his first time at the park, and this was his second attempt. His new, more aerodynamic haircut must have helped get the extra speed, because he was “booking” as they say, or at least used to say when I was in the eighth grade. That’s one hell of a death box. Thanks to Colin for the photo. Dude, ditch your old iPhone for one of the new ones, I hear the camera is a lot better. With Kowalski blowing up you should be able to afford it. Check out the Shot of the Week.
The Skateboard Film Festival in Seattle
Here’s a couple stills from episode one of a series called Gusto. It features Mark Hubbard and Grindline Skateparks, and will likely be shown Saturday, the 15th at the Skateboard FIlm Festival in Seattle, Washington on August 14-16. You can watch the abruptly ending trailer after the jump. Who is going to make the GVK documentary? I don’t know much about thee festival, like for instance, is it the first one? I do know they have a very nice Worpress theme!
Stolen/missing board APB in Portland
Yes, this is very self centered… I lost a board on Saturday night, either out of the parking lot at Gabriel Park from my from yard. Distinguishing characteristics (and really, the thing I care most about) are the Bridgebolt mounting hardware, still in continuous use from the late 80’s. Indy Trucks and white Dropout wheels too.
Friday T&A on S&A: Nekkid Z-Boiz of Idaho
This one is for our female readers – that’s right, both of them. (Hi Stephanie and Judi!) It’s a 1978 Mitch York photo of Bill Zuehl, doing a nude downhill run. The photo was one of three that appeared in The June 7th, 2009 edition of the Idaho Statesman in an article titled “Z-Boiz of Idaho.” Once your done reading, check out the link to Mitch’s web site, which has a great gallery of 32 shots of the Boise Idaho scene from 1975-79, including a bunch of Boise’s Tidy Bowl. Now imagine Mr Zuehl is looking for work and his prospective employer does a google search for his name… – Thanks to Mark Ward for the tip.
One guy, five ditches in northern Virginia
John Egertson sent in some pictures his friend Mike Alexander took of a day’s worth of ditch sessions in northern Virginia. While I certainly appreciate the photos, John and Mike could use an extra body or two in their crew. At the very least, John needs to pick up that camera every once and a while! Hey look, I spelled “Virginia” right this time!
