Artsy fartsy fair
It seems you can’t throw a stone at a hippie in a street fair without hitting an urban artist using old skateboards as a substitute for canvas. This was from my neighborhood last night. It looks like Central America, but it’s just Last Thursday on Alberta Street. Actually, this is mostly an excuse for testing out the Wordpress iPhone app.
Spot check: Best bike path ever
Reader Tony Bro sent in this photo of a bike path in Boulder City, Nevada that looks like a potentially great skate spot. Enlarge-o-rama.

Under the Bridge in Portland
Under the Bridge tonight is where you’ll find Crispin Glover.. No wait, that’s at the river’s edge. New from Thrasher and the guy that brought you the big-bang-for-the-buck beer series, it’s Under the Bridge. It’s a chronicle of D.I.Y. bridge projects subtitled “Quit bitching and start building.” Expect to see footage of Burnside, FDR, Washington Street, Channel Street, and others. There’s a trailer online, or if you are in Portland tonight, Shrunken Head is sponsoring two showings at the Clinton Street Theater, located at 2522 SE Clinton St. The all ages showing is at 7pm and the 21 and over showing is at 9pm. See ya there.
More than one S.O.B. in Baltimore
Looks like the civil lawsuit against the Baltimore cop who has anger management issues when it comes to skateboarders (and RC car enthusiasts…) has been tossed out of court again. I thought the damages they were seeking were ridiculous, but I still think this guy doesn’t serve or protect the best interests of the citizens of Baltimore, even though he has been back on the job for several months. – Thanks to Doc Murdock for the tip.
Wahoo on Yahoo!
This is allegedly a billboard for Yahoo! as found on Flickr and reported by Mashable. This guy has awesome form, and uh, errr… Well there you have it. – Thanks to Tyler Knowlton for the tip.
Wackyboard Tetris
Viral promotion video from Freeboard, maybe indirectly. We’ve covered caster board hybrids before, but surprise surprise, Freeboard is still in business. The extra caster wheel makes it possible to ride sideways on the board if you want, making this Tetris tribute with neon head gear possible. On the one hand, it’s kind of cool. On the other, they aren’t doing much to help thier case. – Thanks to Tim for the tip. [Source: Yay! Everyday]
Aumsville Drop In
Contests are back at Aumsville, Oregon, thanks to Ravage Skateboards and the rest of the sponsors of the “Don’t Drop Out, Drop In” contest. Thanks to everyone who entered or helped out. Thanks to Mike Estes for the photos and for heckling me for not being at the event we sponsored. We were out of town, not lazy! more of Estes pics, a few from Carl Warren and video from Crust Productions after the jump.

New skate park for Steamboat Springs
Team Pain recently broke ground on a new concrete skatepark in Steamboat Springs. They are moving fast, and they have to because they could see snow in October, even at lower elevations. I lived in Steamboat for a couple years in early 90’s. One of my fondest memories was arriving there on Halloween, just in time for a party out in the country somewhere, probably Stagecoach or something. At the party there was a barn with a miniramp. One of the guys skating had shaved his entire body (eyebrows too) and was wearing full bondage gear with a codpiece. Suicide Mike was his name, but that’s a different story. When I lived there the city had a crappy little skatepark consisting of a couple of small mediocre ramps and some crappy street obstacles on a slab of concrete. It was smaller and crappier even than their current setup at Howlesen Hill. Howelsen had a ski jump that some Olympic hopefuls used to practice on. I used to see that thing and ponder hitting it on a snowboard. Of course I had no idea people would skateboard these things one day. Before I get back on track here, Team Pain’s own…
