Call for Art: 3rd Annual BCSA Art and Music Benefit!

The Benton County Skateboard Alliance is announcing a call for art for their 3rd Annual Art and Music Benefit: The Benton County Skateboarding Alliance (BCSA) is hosting the 3rd annual Art & Music Show to raise money to improve the Eric Scott McKinley Skate Park in Corvallis, OR. Improvements include a new pro-style bowl, advanced street obstacles, lights, BBQ pits, and benches. We need $75,000 to $90,000 for the first phase (the bowl). This is a community art show, and all art media and styles are accepted. All art in the show will be up for silent auction. We ask that a minimum of 51% of art sold go to the skate park fund. The show is planned for March 13th, 2010. Art submission deadline is February 15th, 2010. If you are interested in submitting art for this show, please contact the BCSA: bcskateboardingalliance@gmail.com. The BCSA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; donations are tax deductable. For more BCSA info, see their website: bcskateboardingalliance.org Word is that the new venue is a bit of an upgrade from previous years. We’re going to try and send a party from Skate and Annoy down this year. I’m going to see if I can…

It’s Skateboard Rocky!

I found this picture by following a trackback from Sk8.net. It’s from tumblr user djmascotboy, and you can see it larger here. This Rocky kid has good taste in female companions and bad taste in knee pads. Actually, I think he’s sharing shirts with his girlfriend. Those look like Indy 215’s he’s sporting. Update: Checking back in over a decade later and I was able to figure out this is called Sukebo Rocky By Motoyuki Asai, and it translates to “Skateboard Rocky!”

Gone but not forgotten

The North American Skateboard Association appears to be dead, but they sure had a cool logo, as seen on the Planlogic site. I’m a sucker for those old factory icons anyway. Reminds me a little of both the hope for Big Industry from the 50’s and strategic maps from WWII. Maybe the association failed because it could adapt it’s logo to street skating.

Sponsor Luv: Diesel Fuel Klutch Collaboration

Diesel Fuel Prints is the place we get our stickers from, and so should you. They’ve teamed up with Klutch to produce a screen printed poster commemorating our President’s failure to accomplish meaningful change at the end of his first term year. Obama looks like an Alice Cooper Tech Deck Dude in the shot above. Click here if you are losing hope.

Friday T&A on S&A: Naked Brad Bowman

Yes, the bottom of this Brad Bowman deck is naked, but I wouldn’t go for such a cheap shot. Instead, click here for cheap shot that is so fuzzy it might be SFW. The seller of this lovely item (listed at $475) also has things like petrified buffalo skulls and 300,000 a year old turtle fossilized turtle shell. Times are tough when you have to sell your nudie board and your Museum of Natural History pieces. – Thanks to Chip Jones for the tip.

Gold Beach Oregon Skatepark

Gold Beach Oregon skatepark open

Gold Beach, Oregon has a new skatepark built by Wedderburn, Oregon based Liquid Stone Designs which is owned by Lori Linville and in effect, some of the same people who brought you the Coos Bay skatepark. Looks super cool, especially for a town of 1,822 people. Perfect spot for a GVK episode. I’m sure he’ll consider heading their for his annual coast trip. Phase one of the skatepark is 2500 square feet. They’ve been trying to get a skatepark built for the past 15 years. You can get the back story here. There’s a right hand kidney with stairs and a micro bowl with mini capsule. Photos after the jump.

Reader D.I.Y.: It’s Free!

Ben Warren sent this pic of a ramp he built FOR FREE from donated and discarded materials: The ramp is built out of wood that is anywhere from 15 years old to pretty new but it was all free! Thanks to the Dew Tour, Mesh Skatepark in Longwood Florida and some local donations! Im stoaked and i want to spread the word that if you just take some time and initiative, anybody can build something to skate with no cash!! Hell Yes!!! So thanks to Ben, and hopefully this will stoke some of you out there to do a little scrounging and build something. Which reminds me of another successful scrounge (and I mean that in the best possible way…) from Florida, Tim Kulas. Ben’s ramp is in Casselberry, Florida. He sent me a link (www.hereforkicks.com) but it appears to be dead. Don’t forget about Enlarge-o- rama.

Help Yourself, Help Haiti

From Control Manufacturing in Canada: St-Nicolas, Qc January 18th 2010 –In an attempt to come to the aid of the people who are suffering in Haiti in the aftermath of a violent earthquake that brought death and destruction to the country last week we have decided to release a special edition skateboard. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these boards will go to the people of Haiti via the Canadian Red Cross – Quebec division, c/o Fabienne Laisné, 6, Place du Commerce, Verdun (Quebec) H3E 1P4. This board will go on sale across Canada within the next 2 weeks. This board is made out of 100% hardrock Canadian maple at the Control Manufacture in St-Nicolas Qc Canada. The project however is from our sales team. We will use all the contacts we have built over the last 15 years to reach out to all shops, brands and skaters accross Europe, Canada, USA and South America that currently buy boards from us. Not a penny will be kept of the proceeds, everything we make is going to Haiti. When I saw the desperation in Haiti I didn’t know what to do to help… finally I decided to help the…
