She’s back!
The bored gal from Dee Dee’s Vintage is back with another skate shirt, this one from the 80’s. She’s a concrete killer, and the board says “Dare Me.”
Reader D.I.Y.
Drama still unfolding. Surrounding neighbors and businesses are 100% with the exception of one not-to-bright business owner whose main objection is that “those kids have no right to be there.” The area is desolate, any kid with a broom is only making an improvement.
Paul Fujita on Callin’ today
Catch long time Portland artist, activist, skater and the future of Cal Skates, Paul Fujita will be the guest on Callin’ on Colin today. Catch it live on the Interwebs at 2pm Pacific, or download the audio later on in the day. Skate and Annoy is proud to sponsor Callin’ on Colin, regardless of how poorly it is named, and whether or not Colin knows that we are a sponsor yet. That’s an old photo of Paul at Aumsville, circa 2004.
Tommy K Memorial Jam in Virginia
From the organizers: The past two years people of Williamsburg have started a tradition of Tommy Karafa Skate Day. This is a yearly skate contest to honor our friend and neighbor Tommy Karafa who passed in a tragic car accident two years ago in Williamsburg, VA. This contest is to serve as a remembrance of him, as all profits go toward the Tommy Karafa scholarship fund to help underprivileged youths attend college. His father runs the fund and helps students with paying for the ever rising costs of furthering their education. Last year we had a great turnout of over 150 in attendance, with 30 participants in the contest. This year we hope to double that number by teaming up with Anti-Gravity Skateshop in Newport News, VA to bring the premier contest to the Peninsula. 1st prize is a $1000! I believe that’s more than the entire purse for this year’s Oregon Trifecta! Anti-Gravity Skatepark 371 Chatham Dr. Newport News, VA 23602 757-890-8040
Monster Bandages
The novelty bandage business has really taken off. The Monsterville name is synonymous with first aid, so I’m sure these were worth the extra cost. One side of the sanitary wrapper is clear, so I didn’t have to open half of them to find one with a skateboard on it.
Pool Season at Weiden+Kennedy
Weiden+Kennedy is filming skateboards again. Must be a contact high from all their Nike work. This time it’s all about how it’s (still) pool season in California. Not a lot of actual skateboarding, but it is packed with some nicely framed shots of empty pools. Check out Cannonball. – Thanks to… I lost the email! Sorry.
Me want skateboard
Cookie Monster in a classic pose. I have no idea what time period this is from. It could be any tie from the mid eighties on.
Friday T&A on S&A?
I don’t know… she looks so bored, possibly confused. I lost the link to this photo, but it was some place in the U.K. (I think) selling N.O.S. t-shirts for exorbitant prices. UPDATE: Dee Dee’s Vintage. Spinnin Wheels. – Thanks Matt.
Back in business
I usually frown on taking care of personal business in public on this web site (I’m looking at you Neil!) but hey, it is my site after all, and I’m excited to be back in the business of screenprinting skateboards.
Mike V: One rad, mad, bad dude with an identity crisis?
Seriously. Joining a semi-pro hockey team and quitting his bread and butter sponsor Element in a few short weeks? His new skateboard company is called By the Sword, No wait, try this one instead. The OC Weekly interviewed him about it. He’s also setting up a skatepark tour where you can buy tickets to hang out with him. I’m sure he’s got another movie or two in the can or in the works. He’s a busy, busy guy who makes some odd decisions. He must be putting the fear of God into his press agent because it seems like I get an email every other day. The image above is a still within a still from the Mike V promo reel. He should have put news footage of his brawl outside the hockey rink. It’s probably not in the best interest of promoting the Mike V franchise, but it would have demonstrated a good sense of humor.
