I’ve been waiting for an official trailer to post on this, but so far the only clip out there is this excerpt. It looks pretty good from this bit, although Stacy comes off a little maniacal. I thought I read that he had resisted making this film. It will be interesting to see if he does more than just the Bones Brigade love fest the fans will eat up considering there was no real drama akin to the trials and tribulations of the Z-boys. Who knows, maybe there’s a bombshell in there somewhere. It did show at Sundance, and the bitterness in Tony’s commentary about the peak of his (first) popularity is a little unexpected. So maybe there’s more than meets the eye. Nostalgia is fine and well, but here’s hoping that we get to see where and what these guys were up to during the crash of the 90’s. The Tunisian Revolution have been overshadowed by the worldwide events that happened in it’s aftermath. Wounds like that don’t heal overnight, and a group of (wait for it…) skateboarders is working to bring opposites together. Behind this effort is one Nathan Gray, who has been featured here with a Shot of the Week as well as for the film Sour which documents skaters from Jordan and Israel sessioning together despite the turmoil and hatred between their lineage and surroundings. This time in Tunisia they broke the ice with some DIY transition in an abandoned pool, but there’s more. They are documenting the whole thing, trying to spread positivity. Action Man is the UK version of GI Joe, and I’m not talking about the schmaltzy 80’s version, I’m talking Kung-Fu grip and Life-Like Hair ™. I checked out a blind link tip that turned out to be the Action Man Longboard Rider. Not being able to read the content, I was mildly surprised that Vans had licensed their logos for a longboard figure, since it didn’t seem genre appropriate, but that was before I saw the making of photos. Turns out it’s not a real kit, but the equivalent of fan fiction, painstakingly crafted. Some of the photos are interesting, and some are intentionally funny. Whoever runs Madelman Blog Show is obsessed with action figures as much as some people are obsessed with obscure skateboarding references. – Thanks to Boy Ipoh for the tip.
