100% Pure Fun
I got this unexpected bit of joy in the mail a few weeks ago, and so now I’m using it as good excuse to start up the reviews section of Skate and Annoy again. Right now it’s just the old static content from the old site that’s sort of been hidden… since 2009!!!! The formatting on some of those old reviews is kind of janky, but rather than going back and fix everything first, I’m going to start adding new ones. I’m actually a good way through a major Wordpress theme design for the reviews but who knows when I’ll have the time to finish it. On that note, I’d love to have a few extra fingers on the keyboard for the reviews. Almost any product is fair game. We used to review things like bubblegum and beer back in our print editions. I’m thinking about reviewing Legoland in Florida. But that’s enough about reviews, on to Pure Fun. PURE FUN – West Coast Release Part on September 15th in Long Beach, CA. Flyer after the jump.
Shot of the Week 9-10-12
This week’s Shot of the Week is Doc Tickle (?!), Alpine Wyoming, taken by Nick Wenzel. Full frame after the jump.
Friday T&A on S&A: La Femme de Maryhill
Lots of positive things going on at the first all female downhill event at Maryhill, but of course I’ve objectified here on S&A. That’s OK ladies, our readers will enjoy this video from Push Culture News for it’s empowering images of females, and not because they (readers) are pigs.
Earache my eye
Tom Penny board on Flip with Cheech & Chong, and the real Cheech & Chong, via Facebook. CSS has a brief interview with the duo regarding their appearance.
Rolling mechanic
A little bit of street luge and a little bit of skateboarding, all in one Volvo commercial. [ Source: Seismic Facebook feed.] – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip.
I don’t know, can we?
Closeup of a Mountain Dew ad circa 2001. Essentially a retread of the Nike’s “What if we treated all athletes…” campaign from 1997. Good idea, but still clumsy. “We can dream, can’t we?” No we can’t, because there is no “we” that you are implying. i’m not buying it for a second, (now third) pun. Slightly larger after the jump. I need the $16 it would cost, so it’s courtesy of photoshop.
Put it on a plate son
Put it on a plate son, you’ll enjoy it more. Just don’t put it in the microwave or dishwasher. This is a McDonalds “collectible” plate from 2006. I shouldn’t put collectable in quotes because I collected it. Got to give the artist credit for the stylish tuck knee frontside air and the apparent kickflip (heelflip?) on vert, even if Ronald is about to fly off the edge of the vert ramp. Nice bicycle helmet on Ronald. He is a clown though…
Shred the Lard
Shred the Lard with Bacon Skateboards at Baconfest in Portland on Saturday, September 8th. It’s an 80’s style “streetstyle” contest with rails and a spine. $5 to enter, winner takes all. Will there be a jalopy as well? I hope so. I think it was actually illegal to hold a street contest without a beat up old car on the course for a year or two there. Remember streetsyle? The layout may not have been “authentic” street, but you can be damned sure the trucks on the trophies weren’t backwards.
