FLORIDA FUN – radical free (I´m flyin´…) 7”
It´s about one year ago now that I finished my book about what I dare to call Vintage Skaterock and a few weeks ago I discovered the first record I missed out in the book (thanks to Hampuz for the tip!). I am talking about a crazy skateboard tune out of Sweden by a band named FLORIDA FUN.
The song is called “Radical free (I´m flyin´…)” and was released on a 7” in 1979 by Sweden´s Sonet Records (cat.nr. T-7965).
“Mama, gotta go now,
Life is waiting outside.
Don´t try, to hold me back,
You know I can´t stand to be tied.
Freedom, gotta roll now,
Join the sun for a ride
Into the blue
Look out your window
Ohohohoh, I´m flying
I pick my life on wheels
Oh I can´t tell you how it feels
Ohohoho, I´m, flying
Where you can´t, can´t be
I´m too high
I am radical free
Highjump, handstand
Pumping fast down the banks
Don´t try to hold us back
We´re all over fences like [?!?]
Freestyle, Airwalk
Going down off the ramp
Into the blue
Look out your window”
The flipside has a song called “Florida fun” that could be described as blues-influenced 70s Pop/Rock. Reminds me a bit of Elton John. But hey, we don´t collect those kind of records because of the music, right!?
jeez i thought airwalks showed up in ’86
You must mean the shoes?
no the trick, i was 12 in ’86 and pulled a flat ground airwalk, i thought it was cutting edge cuz i only seen natas do one in thrasher, i never paid attention to freestyle, and north jersey has the shittiest skate scene
