    I’m pop-lockin’ on a motherfuckin’ handstand. Word.

  • cockboboncorn

Art cigarettes. I heard the other day that “gays” Hi-jacked the word “gay”. And I hear that advertisement about Think before you speak.com and the word gay. well, “sick” is offensive to AIDS patients. And Fat or PHat is offensive to over weight or Obese people. What is this skateboard mag really? I think it’s a waste of time just like what I’m doing is a waste of time. GO SKATE! Piss on skate mags.

  • corncobcock

sorry Randy…i slipped. Feeling much better now.

  • corncobcock

oh yeah…Hey Getsnide! If it wasnt for G.E.F you art fags wouldn’t have a job and be able to feel like you belong in skateboarding.

    • GetSnide

Hey Peacobbrain, fwiw, don’t love art, females are way into me & vice versa, can kick your ass… and, So What? Hell, Dogtowners didn’t even invent bragging… Alva was such a pitiful imitator of Ali in that regard…whereas, Ali was a humorous imitator of Gorgeous George. I’ve got some respect for Jay Adams because he was real when it came to surfing, and respect for Biniak because he was real when it came to skating. In other words, they weren’t worried about what was cool in those departments, and “belong”ing, and did their thing, and had no need for “G.Effin.F.” OR Craig Stecyk, ya maroon.

    is this the new ConcreteWave?

Magazines. I like M1A magazines the best. A Barrett M82A1 magazine would be the ultimate. As for a skateboard mgazine, I have way to many. What’s the point of another skate magazine? Go skate! If there was a magazine about skating, I would be down. I don’t know about this one but if they had new skateparks being built (like the one in Las Vegas starting next month), or old must hit skateparks and skate spots in different cities, that would be about skateboarding. If you’re gonna do longboarding, let us know where the PHUCk the the hills are so we can go hit them. Like here’s a must hit at Mt.Tabor or how the phuck do I get there. Where’s Danger Bay? Tell us about any dangers of a hill. Or the Dragon dick or whatever they named it, out in Gaston. Yeah, You get that Mr. I got a skateboard journal. That’s phuckin skateboarding, tell us about pools we can’t go hit, don’t be little bitch, like “stinky feet” who tells you about a pool he skated and then says “oh, I can’t take you there” Phuck you, I want to skate it nagger. I don’t care about little johnny doing his inward heeely down a ten stair, I want to know where the phuck that ten stair is so I can try it, or not. Maybe I want to boneless down the damn thing. That’s skateboarding! Pics of dicks doing stairs or some dude doing a slide with gloves is gagging. NOw a guy doing 60mph with a pic of a gps to verify would be cool. Other than that, phuck skate mags. Thank you and have a nice day.

  • idahosk8gringo

Yes, I could use free skate-related reading material.

  • Swamp Thing

    I have a craving for a cheeseburger.

  • egbert

K.C., let me field this one for you. No, we don’t. I’d like to see a magazine of a collection of national zines. Unknown skaters, rad spots. That’s skating.

  • Do we really need another skate mag?

  • Gnarles Copinghagen

I don’t mind longboards. As long as they are the right shape you can still grind coping with them, long or short. It’s all good.

  • i like free shit.

  • Dave ILL

    Where’s Dave

  • coochmon

I like to look at the pictures.

  • Michael

I’m Unemployed. Anything priced as “free” helps, and I value any publication dedicated to Skateboarding.

    Thanks.

p.s. I would like to skate the former D.O.S bowl.
How does that work these days?

    • It’s a private club now with members exchanging money for use of the space and utilities and helping to maintain the bowl.

    free = good

  • GetShrunk

    Jack,

Are you serious about that job offer? Not to be rude, but I think you magazine could use some guidance. A couple goods things about you’re magazine- great paper quality, large distribution, so there is potential with the magazine.

Also, here are a couple ideas for you. If you’re into doing a ‘retrospective’ pieces why not contact Jon Humphries and seeing if you can do a feature on Burnside? Or maybe you could do a ‘past and present feature’ on the park. I bet Humphries has new photos of Burnside that haven’t been ran yet.

You could hit up local photographer in the Northwest (Jon Humphries, Bryce Kanights, Garric Ray) and do a feature on the Northwest. Lots of good skaters are in Portland not now ( Matt Beach, Silas Baxter Neil, Tyler Bledsoe, David Gravette, just to name a few.

Once more idea to throw you’re way- why not do a Glen E Friedman feature?

    • GetSnide

Not to be rude, but GetShrunk seems to be the one in need of an editorial consultant… but I don’t think he’d pay you Jack. And kindly don’t throw anything Glen Friedman “our are” way… cuz what the hell does that kook have to do with actual skateboarding this century?

  • colin

    Who Won?

  • this mag rules! Just saw it at the local bookstore. The book rules too!!!

  • and yep, what get shrunk and welsh pete have said.

  • yep. comment

  • Getshrunk

    Jack,

Thanks for the offer, that’s very nice of you, but I’m not interested. I’ve got to ask again, why reuse a photo (that’s already been run) for your first cover?Regardless of hooking up Ben Colen with a photo feature, it’s still a bad idea- I’m sure Ben had some new photos that haven’t been ran that you could have used instead.

Oh, just a suggestion, maybe pick up a copy of Allen Ying’s new magazine 43, if you want to put out a good magazine, you might want to look at that for some inspiration.

    • Jack Smith

      Getshrunk,

You make some excellent points, thanks. I think you would make an excellent editorial consultant. How about it? Can’t pay you a whole lot, but will pay you.

      Jack

      • curtis

he wants a subscription to a grocery store mag as a prize. please don’t pay him

      • talentlessquitter

        Can I get his subscription?

  • Jack Smith

Damn Bobo, you’re on to me! Since you asked politely, why not. But that taps me out on free subs, the other three are up to Kilwag.

  • So let me get this straight, if I come on here and slag off this mag I get a free subscription?

  • Getshrunk

Yeah, getting a free subscription to this magazine isn’t much of a prize. Tons of longboard photos, blurry skate photos, the only good photos (like the cover) has already been ran in Transworld and Thrasher, Skateboarder, etc. But if you guys can hook up a free subcription to Skateboarder Magazine, that’s a different story. That magazines has been putting out a lot of great content lately.

    • Jack Smith

Excluding longboarding photos in ads, there were two pages out of 100 devoted to longboarding photos. Yep, some of the photos had been previously published, that’s what happens when you do a photographer retrospective piece, a history piece and a cross generational article. All that being said, I hope you’ll give us a chance.

Getshrunk, regardless of the outcome of this contest, I would like to offer you a free subscription.

      Jack

      • So, let me get this straight, I bang on longboards, photo quality, and various other aspects of your mag, and you hook me up with a free subscription?

Sweet! Let’s get started! Your mag is whack, longboards are cut, and republished photos are bunk.

Awright Ace, I hope that’s reason enough. Now, let’s make with my first issue, and no lagging ’cause I got a serious duece brewing and I can’t drop brown without some literature!

    • curtis

      don’t pick Getshrunk

  • Adam Wallingford

Talentless Quitter has the coolest name on here!

    • talentlessquitter

Well…it’s actually Talentlessunquitter now, ’cause I still roll…

  • Don’t pick me. I took a quick look at this mag the other day and was disappointed in what is shaping up to be another ‘Concrete Wave.’ I’m all for variety and including longboard ads to pay the bills but it didn’t seem to have any ‘edge’ to it whatsoever. Skateboard media is truly fucked. Although the new Juice has some good content.

    • Jack Smith

      Hey Pete,

Give us a chance, we’ll find some edge for you.

Yes, we did have more longboard companies than short board companies advertising in the first issue. Not for a lack of trying on our part. Hell, most of the established skateboard companies were to cool to even bother returning a phone call or an email. I find it kind of funny that while so many of the mainstream brands are always preaching “ride everything”, yet when presented with a magazine that is all about riding everything, they can’t be bothered.

I also find it interesting that so many mainstream skate companies now have “cruisers or longboards” in their lineups. They will bash longboarding to their core audience, yet sell out, to keep the doors open and lights on.

In the first issue, we had two pages of longboarding coverage. SBJ will stick to it’s mission statement and cover all types of riding, we won’t be influenced by advertisers. In fact one of our goals is to someday get down to only 8-10 pages of ads. We truly want to be a “reader supported” publication.

Even though you don’t want to be picked, I would like to offer you a free subscription. (this is in addition to the three being offered here)

      Jack

      • bailgun

you just called real skateboards “shortboards.” you lack a fundamental understanding of skateboarding. please go bankrupt as soon as possible.

      • Thanks for the offer. Sure I will take it. I dropped you an email as well as an Editorial submission. A little piece on the Brooklyn St spot…

      • Most of the time when people say “ride everything” they are talking about street/pools/parks/etc, not regular boards/longboard/freestyle/luge/etc.

I don’t mind longboards, but they are just a totally different thing. You can’t really lump the two together. 99% of the people who own longboards never really skated and/or just use them for transportation and cruising around. 1% are goofy accentrics who actually skate but prefer something heavier, clunkier, slower, spongier, and harder to skate on; or they are into downhill.

…wait, why do I even feel like I have to explain this – to a skate mag??

        • talentlessquitter

Feels good to be in the 1% for a change.

Hey Jack: “don’t pick me either!” The mag has no edge and skateboard media is truly fucked anyway. I’m not convinced!

Do I get a free subscription now?

      • Looking forward to swiping Pete’s free copies and crapping myself blind!

    • The Buddha Known As The Fitzer

Pete,if the rumors are true, I understand the Uber-Underground Front Rock Review is poised to unleash a skate-media jihad the likes of which not even 411 Video Magazine could fathom…

    • curtis

      pick Welsh Pete
