Protec Pool Party

Dan Bourqui put up a gallery of shots from last weekend’s Vans Protec Pool Party, check them out at 50-50.com. I watched about a half hour of it on Saturday, the whole thing kind of snuck up on me. I didn’t realize it was happening until Grover called me asking what time it started. The biggest noteworthy event has to be Tony Hawks return to competition. He placed 4th in the Masters. The webcast announcers definitely recognized his skills but pointed out his tendency to “halfpipe It” instead of scoping out pool-ish lines. Also of interest, Amelia Brodka noticed that last year’s female winner Lizzie Armanto (see photo by JCB) was inexplicably left off the hanging banner, even though they had been included in previous years.

  1. Before last year, the ladies were part of the event and thus, included on the banner. However starting last year, the ladies now have their own event. Does that mean they get their own banner to be unveiled at this years ladies pool party? I hope so, but I’m not super confidant that they will. I don’t think they should be on the same banner as the mens if they didn’t skate at the same event as the men. But they damn sure should have their own banner if they have their own event.
Same for the ams for that matter.

  2. Vans has also apparently ditched their girls team altogether.

maybe it’s the barney in me, but all of the photos are pretty generic apart from #6. That shot of DP just has so much character. It grabbed my attention straight away.

    1. I think it’s because the background is so busy.

I think they are alright.Look at ’em fly! Those lamps hang too low…Looks like Hawkster is swapping boards mid-air.
      I like #41.

Jeff Hedges with the “I don’t get my shoes for free” realism!

DP makes any photographer look good.

H ow does Anthony Furlong stay in this competitive group. He is good but in all my years I have never seen him break into the top five.

Grover have you seen his Madona’s. Yes I have. None better I say. My theory is the world needs ditch diggers too. Or in anthony’s case someone to make the cut and round out the field. The real question is who is paying for his exploits. Cn some one answer.

  6. Anybody going to give Duane a hard time about the hand position on that layback grind?
