Flying Floors at Philadelphia International Airport

PHL not FDR

PHL is the airport code for Philadelphia International Airport, the same place you can find this 1988 installation by Vito Acconci, called Flying Floors. These cellphone snaps are courtesy of 1998 Tom Jacobs, via Brian Baade. There’s another overview shot here, and here. As long as we’re blowing it out… U.S. Airways area, Terminal B. That’s one hell of a roll in. I love public art.

  1. I might travel with my skateboard again……..

  2. Looks kind of like a Powell logo on the outside.

PHL, the most hostile place on earth outside of Philly proper. The welcome banner at the international terminal reads, “Fuck you, you fuckin’ fuck.”

  4. I remember rolling through here when I was in middle school. I wanted to skate it so bad! I didn’t have my board… bu I did have tech decks! Needless to say, I tech decked the crap out of that installation (and ran halfway up the roll in). Wow, haven’t thought about that in years!

  5. i think kickturn over the channel would be trick of the day.
