Skate Like a Girl Tour
Come join a bunch of women skaters as they invade your local spot. S.L.A.G. is an advocacy group organizing skate camps and skate activities for females and they are rolling through an eleven stop road tour through the west. Various women pros will join up along the way. They’ll be in Hood River and at D.O.S. tomorrow.
There’s something interesting about seeing girls who could never refer to themselves as slags, who evince no butch-ness, and who still want to skate. Ironies abound: American culture says girls shouldn’t skate unless they have some “tomboy” in them. The afghan culture hasn’t codified skating as a strictly male enterprise, and so girls are allowed to skate.
