eBay Watch - June 2009

eBay Watch: June 2009

I want to start this month by thanking all of those who contributed to the raffle in my name held on skullandbones. Thanks to everybody who purchased “tickets”, and a big thanks to all who arranged it. I have spent the cash, and you will see the result of the raffle in the July BayWatch. I also want to thank all of the folks who email me with kind words about the column and also those who write in with tips and links to auctions of interest. Keep them coming because finding new and interesting stuff is a constant battle. Also, without the kind words of the folks that write in, I don’t know if I’d still be doing this!

A couple of reminders: you can click on the images to see the full size versions. If they don’t get bigger, don’t blame me: I grab the biggest image that is available on eBay, but sometimes the sellers don’t post large images, and in cases like that there isn’t much I can do. Also, remember to leave comments in the Feedback section, whether it is a simple comment or even a correction. If you won one of the auctions I mention, maybe tell us a little about the condition of the deck etc.

    Thanks for the article,
I am riding my Brandon Chapman Crash and Burn Cruise Missile Concave three times a week at the park. It’s not as perfect as yours but it rocks.

  • Neil, I don’t think that Iron Cross sold in the end, if it was the dude in England – I think it went wrong on ebay.

  • i used to skate some of these decks back in the day. nice to see them again, wish id kept all my old ones tho:( i got sponsered and used to give the old stuff away to a local kid, and his dad would set up my new one haha. he was a joiner had the tools and made a good job of the griptape. should of kept them all.

    Kia ora Neil,

Yet another bootleg for you, I think this one is pretty common as I saw a few of these in the day.
Anyway its a tidy example and I like the pink nose
    – makes him look like a drunk. looking forward to the bootleg issue!

  • I have one of those eric sims bandito 2’s. the colorway is not that nice though. it was my first board and i bought a mint one a few years ago for like 70 bucks. seeing it go quick for over 400 is giving me pause.

  • Stay free is a great song! Great piece again Neil, and out early. Thanks

Thanks for the report! I dig the ‘Godoy – Iron Cross’
I found a pile of Iron Cross decks under some back stairs in a bicycle shop about 9 years ago (super cheap). Passed on them, went back couple of years later, all gone. It haauuunnts me.

  • Well put, houseofneil, and nice column, as always.

Brandon Chapman? Did I miss Brandon Chapman along the way? Just nice graphics?

  • houseofneil

And Randy, I agree, Combat Rock is Ok, but it’s not great. It’s got some great songs, some Ok stuff, and some absolute dross. And on the 1st album they sang about stuff they knew and could relate to. So why so interested in Vietnam? Why take so many obvious anti-american shots? The older I get the less I understand that shit. The same with Billy Bragg. “Help Save the Youth of America”? Dude, there’s plenty of fucking chavs in England who could use the message too. It’s not like everybody in England has a degree in Poli Sci. Easy targets, lazy writing.

  • houseofneil

naah, it’s all good. My main message is love the old stuff but keep looking for good new stuff too. I go overboard sometimes, but I feel I have to do that to get old punks to even try new stuff. Really, old punk rockers are some of the most reactionary fuckers when it comes to listening to anything released since 1992.

  • …here we go again.

  • A

I actually like Sandanista! An really Combat Rock is hard to swallow? Combat Rock is a great album. Cut the Crap, however… blech.

  • ahhh so Smooches got the Hill, nice work!

  • Neil- its a good record- last month I found an entirely acoustic version of the album which is cool too. Sounds like Rancid’s take on Billy Bragg at some points….

  • Excellent work, as usual, Neil!

(And why do I suspect I am the only one who prefers the Kendall graffiti deck to the EotW or snake deck?)

  • Right here cream puff.

  • So who got that Hill Eastwood, unbelievable

  • The Hill is tight a balls. In hand there are not may like it. One of Cliver’s best. Me love you long time.
    Everyone else can suck it.
