Depressing the clutch for a smooth shift into highbrow gear before we drop the tranny into lowbrow tomorrow for Friday T&A. Female skateboarder and artist Lia Hollaran has an exhibition in New York City’s DCKT gallery titled, “Dark Skate“. Long exposure sessions in the dark of night capturing flowing traces of light. That or photographic evidence of neutrally buoyant luminescent Silly String.
A video interview with Lia and more photos can be found at Huck. Thanks to Huck Magazine

It’s cool to see other experimentations with light at night in skateparks. I’m guessing the subject in Lia’s photos are holding the light source while they skate. The image Mark took at Pier Park the skater was skating with a quad-luma light helmet. It might be cool to mount lights on the major joints and try this technique as well. Awesome shots Lia.

I like the upper and lower contrast of #7.

Those are really cool. I like the one where the light comes in over the top of the camera.

I think MC actually has a really large print of this, 16 x 20 or so, but yes, it’s all about hte presentation. I didn’t realize her prints were that big. Kind of blows an idea I had to make really large prints of skate terrain closeups at life size.

yes i like that photo too… but she’s printing on 48″ square…. which would be pretty sweet to have.
