OK. Here we go again. Another site launched trying to target the social networking aspects of MySpace and YouTube directly towards skateboarders. This one goes as far as to have a press release spelling it out. On the surface it makes sense, but the fact that they have a press release in the first place should be a tip off. Smells like teen marketing all right. The title of the press release is “YouTube and Google Video are too Mainstream for Skateboarding Culture” So it’s Mycityskates.com to the rescue right?
Connect with friends, meet new friends? What is it a dating service? It’s not like it’s 1982 and there is nobody to skate with. I nominate myself for king of the city. I guess this could be useful for some kids. Otherwise there are already credible regional and national communities out there.
