SOTW 9-12-11: St John’s Bridge
This shot of Jeremy Tuffli taken by Garric Ray recently appeared in Skateboarder magazine:
I shot the photo of Jeremy on January 2nd and he did the trick in 23 degree weather! I think I spent a couple hours with a weed wacker to clean up the spot so you can see the drop as well. I still trip out that he landed the blunt fakie in the first place. Not sure if you’ve been to the St. Johns quarter pipe under the bridge or not, but you can get really hurt skating that spot if things go wrong.
You can check out the Shot of the Week, but I would stay here for enlarge-o-rama so you can see what’s happening. I need to get that incorporated into the SOTW.
That spot is crazy, especially the other side of the river. I used to fantasize about skating it when I lived there.
St. Johns bridge is awe inspiring for a builder such as me. I can’t imagine a bridge that beautiful will ever be built again but hopefully I’m wrong. My friend Gook John told me that years ago some Skate Pharmacy guys climbed up to the quarterpipe on the north side and had to be rescued.
Rad photo!
Cathedral Park: rope, climbing gear, stealth and a few friends in ’87 Get in, get out and don’t get caught!
Skillz.
yeah! climbing UP was way easier than trying to get down… covered in moss, and shoddy concrete surfacing, but the 1/4 pipe did beckon… I grew up blocks from the bridge, and it is a wonder of transitions… a totally beautiful bridge, but to the trained eye, so much more!
Yeah, the St Johns bridge is awesome! You guys know the quarter pipe Jeremy is skating is on the other side of the bridge right? There’s at least a 20 feet drop or more on each side and the quarter pipe is barely three feet wide. By the way- both Jeremy and Garric kill it, did anyone see the Matt Beach interview Garric shot for Thrasher recently?
