SOTW 6-01-09: Metals in Boston
Well after last week’s fiasco, I dug up this shot from when I went on a road trip to Boston back in ’88 or ’89. I can’t remember. This shot is an enlargement from one I took at a spot called Metals. I don’t remember the skater’s name, but he was just one of the many friendly, stoked locals I met. Everyone flowed when I was there. This was probably some sort of wall jam plant off the side of the metal bank that was an freestanding sculpture. Check out the full frame Shot of the Week.
that looks like Neal Bantens kinda sorta.
That’s me, man! That shot is the tail end of a 360 board flip ‘invert’. Metals was the first stop after gettin off the train from Rockport for me and my boys. It’s 1989, by the way (can tell from my board and my hair).
Thanks- I got shot of the week!

That’s awesome, and a plate of shrimp coincidence that you found it after 20 years…. I can send you a larger scan if you want it.
Metals! I was a semi-regular there in the early-mid 80’s. I worked downtown and at Faneuil Hall so I’d hit it on breaks and after work. Fun spot.
Why Sepia tone? Why am I critiquing photos? I don’t know, I’m very underslept.
It’s not really a sepia tone. The negative are old and thin, plus probably not fixed long enough. The only way I could get a decent scan of them was to tell the scanner they were color negatives, which gives them this color cast. I didn’t feel the need to try and convert to B&W becasuse I tried as few and didn’t like the results. Plus, I like the way they look.
Ah Kev, nice pic! Auditioning for the Bones Brigade huh?
Great shot Kevin! Look ma, no ink or piercings!
This is boston not LA
