Two instances of world class athletes using skateboards for cross training purposes. First up is 10k Olympic gold medalist Mo Farah allegedly building balance on a skateboard, though admittedly just an experiment, and more likely just a photo op for the The Oregonian. On the right, Daniel Woods “prepares” for the 2010 Bouldering World Cup at a skatepark. With the event just two days after the video footage was shot, he was probably just trying to relax, get his mind off the competition, and of course, not get hurt! Video footage of Daniel after the jump – Just a tiny bit of skating and a lot of bouldering, but it’s some amazing bouldering footage.

I remember when I first met Salman. It was in 1988 and I was working at Winchester Skateshop in Campbell, CA and he came rolling up one day in a beat up lowered brown Toyota. His driver’s seat was also lowered so all I could see were his nose, eyes, and Afro haircut through the car door window as he bouncily drove up to the shop front. Pretty hilarious! He parked his car and pulled out a Powell Peralta set up and started doing some really consistent flat land lines in front of the shop but nothing too insane. I later saw him around at skate jams doing some pretty cool (yet standard for the time) launch ramp airs. We eventually became good friends and hung out a lot in San Jose doing whatevs. We sort of just cruised around from spot to spot doing slappies and wall rides and so forth. Until one day…
Get the rest of the story and a video after the jump. Thanks to Simon for sharing.
It’s a little bit of Gonz, a lot of Simon Woodstock, and a little bit of Sorcery 118. These frame grabs only scrape the surface of what Jesse James and Chris Atherton are up to in terms of weird little Frankenstein skateboards and general… I guess shenanigans is the word I’m looking for. Seriously. These are not the best frame grabs, but there were too many to choose from. Some people find this kind of thing annoying, but I defy you not to smile while you are watching this. It’s a Golden Egg After you watch it, check out a short interveiw and some behind the scenes action on Caught in the Crossfire.
Guido Sty Rizzone made edited footage and photos to show the history of skateboarding in 2 minutes, and did a good job. Go ahead, you’ve only got 2 minutes to lose.
Another good installment of 7 Seconds at Svitak’s, this time with Dave Hackett. He’s only three episodes in and already lost an expensive wide angle lens to to Hackett’s mini ramp assault. It was Dave’s 52nd birthday, so Kristian probably cut him some slack. Brought to you by Regulator Distribution and 1031.
Down in the basement! Although if this was in my basement it would be a different story. Check out this incredibly tight (transitioned) mini bowl in Nate Latimer’s basement.
Willis, Andy, Mark and Lorenzo getting it at Pier and Unheard, during one of the weirdest and coldest weeks of the year. 12.28.12-01.01.13
How thoughtful, a skate session on my birthday! Oh wait, I wasn’t invited. That’s OK, I would have stunk up the video. A little Unheard facility footage too. Music by Ghost Alien.
Pacific Park in Vancouver, Washington is so close, but I always forget it’s there. Here’s a video from Landshark Wheels featuring two Northwest rippers, Danny Tumia and Mudhoney (via the soundtrack.) The song is “Sonic Infusion” from the album “Since We’ve Become Translucent.” Check out the recently released Mudhoney documentary I’m Now. The Midwest and Pacific Northwest. Two great tastes that go together.
Yes, a retread of last lear’s video, but let’s not take that as foreshadowing this year’s content. Lots of exciting things planned for 2013, this time I mean it! Thank you for reading Skate and Annoy!
JamCopters are high end platforms for building radio controlled helicopters with cameras. Both the copters and the filmmaker Jan Minol of Samadhi Production come from the Czech Republic, and yet no Marek Litinsiky… To me the “making of” video is more interesting than the Firefly final edit, but there are breathtaking shots in both versions. Definitely some post processing noticeable, but I don’t think that takes much away form the end product. There are a couple people here in the Northwest dabbling in helicopter cams with skateboarding as well. (Exhibit A, B, and C) LED’s skateboarding and helicopters after the jump.
