Don’t get your hopes up

Because this is picture of an indoor mountain bike park opening up in Portland called Lumberyard. By Kent Dahlgren knows a guy who built it. I’m sure he had help, but kent helped himself to a session and some photos. In some ways so similar to what you expect to see, but in others definitely skewed. Very interesting. I’d love to see some of these interactions between planes in a concrete skatepark.

Dave’s for Sale: Pro Shop Adjacent

Checkout this somewhat funny, somewaht sad video ad for the sale of Dav’s Skatepark, which can be sublet for 2k a month, but if it doesn’t work out you can bail without penalty. Business tip: The reason your skatepark isn’t packed might have something to do with the fact that you are cranking “Under the Boardwalk” on the sound system. Bonus Pro Shop adjacent to the public area. !0 years in business! Holy cow. Lufkin Texas. Dave sounds like Kenny Powers.

Indoor en La Tabacalera

An artfully done video of indoor skatepark construction in an old tobacco factory in Madrid, Spain with mostly recycled materials. It’s a bit long but it’s interesting, the soundtrack on middle timelapse section section had me cracking up. Check it out.

- Thanks to Sarib Khalsa for the tip.

Please skate in our BMX pool

Apparently the did let four wheeled freaks in the pool. And yes, I agree with the reader comment who finds the fact that they plastered “The Pool” all over everything. I get it. Everyone gets it. It was built in a pool. The place probably still reeks of chlorine. They must pay their branding managers well. Skate footage courtesy of Caught in the Crossfire after the jump.

- Thanks to Keith “method” Ayers for the tip

Pool build time lapse

A bit of stretch featuring this BMX only facility on Skate and Annoy once, let alone twice, but I’m a sucker for time lapse construction movies, and this spot is cool. Check it out after the jump, some before and during footage, and lots of footage of guys on bike – not skating but still killing it.

- Thanks to MC.

Department of Skateboarding bowl sale

Usually you go to a department store to buy something instead of buying the Dept on Craigslist.

Skateboarders need a place to skate, and in that place they need this bowl!

We have a quote from a demo company that can assist in deconstruction, moving and reassembly for a fee. Price is negotiable.

Bowl Details:

- 6′ and 8′ deep sections
- 50′ x 60′ footprint with surrounding raised deck area
- Fully wood framed with plywood decking and OSB face
- Tiled top edge underneath the coping

- Thanks to Colin for the tip.

Commonwealth

SE Portland has a new spot in the works called Commonwealth Skateboarding. Yes, it’s going to be pay-to-play, but it’s also indoors and concrete. I haven’t seen it in person but I hear it’s comparable in size to BSSS. Who is behind it? Check out Sherkowski Daily for the scoop or visit the Facebook page. Meanwhile, Grover gained entrance and shot some work in progress.

New indoor in Vancouver Wa

I found out about this from a non skater, you know, a civilian. Turns out the new indoor park is next door to one of those warehouses full of inflatable bounce houses for kids. My informant was there for a kid’s birthday party. I went to go check it out on a Saturday but nobody was there. The place looks like it’s still under construction. From what I can see, it’s standard indoor street course type fare. Basically a one hit back and forth affair. From my vantage point ( standing on the roof of the SUV backed up against the roll up door) it also looks like really close quarters. There’s also what appears to be long miniramp with one end bowled in. Before actually seeing this place I thought it might ease the pain of The Department shutting down, but I’m fairly certain it’s not going to fill that gap. Ripzu is admittedly run by parents of skateboarding children looking for a sterile environment for kids to skate. Not that the Department is especially gritty. The rates seem high but this place might actually survive based on the fact that a lot of parents are already going next door with little kids on a regular basis. The Ripzu site (not sure what the name means?) has some construction shots that are a lot more clear but not as recent my spy-cam shot.
