Time Lapse Theater: Show Me Pools backyard project

Chris Lynch turned me on to this St louis area backyard project, the pool that cannot be named:

After hand digging, hand mixing over 650 bags of concrete, hand stacking aforementioned concrete, 63 feet of tile, and 15 different types of coping; the pool that cannot be named has reached completion.

And Actually, that was almost eight months ago. I had this labeled saved as a draft and eventually forgot about it. There are three videos, in order of completion from Show Me Pools, and the middle one is a time lapse movie.

UPDATE: Added another video with skate footage, which is slow motion for some reason. GVK must have been the filmer… Thanks to Tim Jamison.

Rampbook compound

Check out these pics of a ramp compound found on Rampbook, aka Negative Ion. This behemoth is made from the carcasses of no less than 11 other Colorado ramps, a few of which have been shown on S&A before. Check it out and noodle around Negative Ion a little, there’s all kinds of good stuff squirreled away there.

It cuts both ways

Home foreclosures and mortgage woes mean lots of empty pools in some parts of the country, and it even affects people with built-for-skate facilities like the Barrio Bowl in Las Vegas, reportedly selling for 32k to appease the bank. This picture comes from Picasa user Eric, and minimal details are available on Concrete Disciples.

Inverse punchline

Second oldest skate joke in the book after using a real broom to pull a “sweeper.” And that familiar gag is digging a bowl in your back yard and calling it a fish pond to get around zoning and nosy neighbors. In the case of the Bear’s Reef, the homeowner was digging up cat poo in the back yard and unearthed a buried fishpond, inspiring him to renovate it to make it more skateable. Beefed up transition and homemade coping. Sounds like a great project. No idea what part of the country this is in, but I found it while checking in Herman’s Hole, so maybe it’s in the Midwest. Kickstart a bowl

Well, it’s already been kickstarted, it needs to be finished. This is a backyard bowl in Richmond, Virginia. The builders are looking for money to essentially fill the rest of the yard with concrete. Their motivation, besides the obvious, is the total lack of skateparks in Richmond. People pledge donations that are held in escrow on the condition that the $5,500 goal is met before time runs out. My old man’s a fatso

He’s got a potbelly for a mouth. Yeah, my old man’s a fatso, but you know he owns this house! The Angry Samoans rule, and so does having your own backyard bowl. When it rains, use a tarp, like Matt does in Grant’s Pass, Oregon. Kudos to punkerbean666 for reaching into the vault and choosing the earlier demo version of this song, it shows depth.
