Bubblegum Grindcore? I don’t get or like grindcore, but even if I did, I’m pretty sure I’d still hate this record. These guys are talented musicians and all, but they seem to be having a hard time picking a genre. Some of the greatest bands of all times have defied genres, but Silent Fate is not one of those bands. So there are grindcore elements, but it’s mostly full of neo-90’s grunge elements. Imagine the grindcore used as the bread for an entirely bland grunge/goth sandwich. The press release said for fans of Killswitch Engage and As I lay Dying” which means I can safely avoid both of those bands. It also makes a big deal about he cover version of Duran Duran’s “Come Undone,”which might actually be the worst track on the CD. It’s almost a wussified version of the song, barely different than the original except for the addition of some faintly aggro guitars in the background, and it’s produced poorly, not up to the level of the rest of the tracks. Skin is a decent track, but every time I start to enjoy it, I am reminded of this picture from the liner notes. With the right video, it would have been a hit in 1995. The rest of the Autumn Machine is pretty boring, and often embarrassing otherwise.

Verdict: Not good enough for the Good Will
