My Pain and Sadness Is More Sad and Painful Than Yours is a re-release of the original Fuzzbox recording from 2000. On My Pain and Sadness, Mclusky sometimes come across as a really bitter, pissed off Pixies with something to prove. My Pain and Sadness could have come out of america’s indie midwest in the late 80’s or early nineties but instead these guys come out of nowhere (or Wales, at least) and are intent on making an impression. Frantic and crazed, these simple rambling tunes will probably make you feel strongly about them one way or another, and that’s good because middle of the road is no place to be unless you want to end up as roadkill. They do tone it down on occaission, so not every song is like a rude cartoon. There are also hints of what is to come in their recent release Mclusky Do Dallas. My Pain and Sadness Is More Sad and Painful Than Yours ought to give you a good idea of the Mclusky sense of humor and outlook on life. Most songs are like little absurd one act plays or internal monologues by slightly paranoid schizos. Regardless of and also because of it’s possible influences, My Pain and Sadness… is a good thing to own. I keep trying to tell my wife she should listen to McLusky because she’s a big Pixes fan, but she’s not having it, and as a result, we’re seeking marriage counseling.
