Fabulous Disaster: Panty Raid

Label: Pink and Black

Release Date: 2002

Review Date: 2003

This is what happens when you go to punk rock shows with a bunch of bands and have a fistful of beer and vicodin. Sure you have a blast, but you end up buying stuff from bands because you get all misty eyed about supporting "the scene." These gals were fun to watch, and they play hard and fast. In fact "The proper saying is Jam Out with the Clam Out" as the web site proclaims. With "Panty Raid" as the title and songs like "Next big Joyride" you might think you're in for another dose of the Bobbyteens. But instead of songs where girls take over traditional rock and roles of boys like cruising and being tuff you get some hard rocking punk ditties about hating life, friends and lovers pissing off, and being depressed. Oh yeah, Laura sings about candy on "My Addiction," one of the standout tracks. The basic premise is there but there's not a lot to distinguish it from the army of other bands that are out there doing the same thing. Well except for a dykey bass player named Mr Nancy who is one of the high points of the band. Well hell, if you're going to listen to standard loud fast and simple pop punk there's no reason why you couldn't pick Fabulous Disaster. It's certainly more interesting than listening to another petri dish full of teenage boys on the same treadmill. Hold the phone... replacing the more weathered Joan Jett protege on lead vocals is Cynder block, formally of Tilt. Who knows where this will lead them. no mention of what happened to miss Laura Litter, perhaps the many personal problems evidenced in her lyrics (hating her life, friends and lovers pissing her off, being depressed... ) Anyway, we wish her the best, maybe more so than the band since there's no mention of where she went.
