Gadjits: Wish We Never Met

Label: Hellcat

Release Date: 1999

Review Date: 2000

Where is it written that you have to like everything that Hellcat produces? Now that No Doubt has ruined so-called "Ska" for the commercial masses, what are they rest of the bands suppposed to do? The Gadjits are all from the same gradeschool or highschool or whatever. They mean well, but ultimately they are just too plain boring on this record. The world needs more mediocre white ska bands like it needs another dose of white boy r n b bands. These guys try afully hard though. their hearts and organs (as in keyboards) are in the right place. Zach and crew pour their hearts out and manage to keep the guitar riffs under the supersonic speeds unlike most bands of their ilk. Gadjits are trying to be a thinking man's ska band, but they have a pretty good sense of humor. Jenny Jones (leave the death rock kids alone) isn't quite this decades "Bitchin Camaro" but it almost pulls it off. Unfortunately, the production and overall generic nature of the tunes makes this record n easy one to pass on. I've never seen them live, they're probably pretty good, at least if you know people in the band. I'm not trying to discourage them, though let's face it, they probably could care less what I think. And rightly so since I'm writing about other people's music instead of making my own. Let's hope that these guys continue to mature. They sound relly sincere. Expect to see something promising from their ranks some time in the future.
