Green Skate Lab

www.greenskatelab.org

Green Skate Laboratory is an interesting concept that combines science, art, skateboarding, and enviromental activism. Basically, they are trying to build a skatepark that will serve as the focal point for a learning facility for physics as well as an art center. A big part of the project has been building the retainin wall out of old tires fished up out of a local river.

The park has been funded through hard work and donations. Here's where the story gets more interesting. 20k donated by the Tony Hawk Foundation was deposited into the general slush fund of a local school where the facility was supposed to be constructed. The school prinicipal has since told the Green Skate Lab project that the facility can not be built on the property it was designated, and now refuses to give the money back!

Instead of giving up, the project reached an agreement withthe local park district. The park district staff has since changed and is now trying to pull the plug on the project. Work continues, but despite the best efforts of all involved, the project might end due to a corrupt school board and the politics of public servants.
