Mad Rats was a brand of padded skate shorts. Typically corduroy, and very short, they disappeared as surf style shorts became popluar inthe eighties. Mike McGill always wore these, it seems. Update: According to Dave Anderson - "Madd Rats skate shorts were popular in the late 70's. Mike McGill was always wearing Baja South corduroys and then Skate Rags (was a Tracker Trucks owned side company) due to his sponsorship by Tracker Trucks."
