2007 Oregon Trifecta at Battle Ground Tobin's Back yard.

What do you do when your pro contest get's rained out in Washington? You move it to someone's back yard in Oregon, that's what. Maybe that's what you get in the first place for holding an event called The Oregon Trifecta in Washington.

Oh man, this contest was sooo badass! You shoulda been there! Actually, I wasn't there until the last three minutes. After two and a half days I was pretty much over it, so I went home to hang out with my family. Good thing Shawn Reinert was there or there wouldn't be any pictures to post. Shawn works at a photography equipment store you know, so he started messing around with long exposures that picked up multiple flashes from other cameras. The results are way out there. Not always the best for showing you what was going on, but interesting nonetheless, and you are going to sit there and expand your tiny little minds by and looking at them anyway.

What I did hear was that there were very abbreviated warm up runs, which makes sense since they burned a lot of time trying to wait out the rain in Battle Ground deciding what to do in general, and setting up at Tobin's. Tobin's bowl is tight. If you aren't used to it it can be hard to adapt to. Granted, the level of riders in the contest is supposed to be able to do that anyway, but it's quite a, err, transition, from Battle Grounds wide open spaces to someone's private bowl that is packed into what is essentially a 2 to 2.5 car garage. The younger and smaller riders had a bit of a leg up here assuming they had the skills in the first place. It worked well for Morgan Burgess, who was making the final heats anyway, and at 12 years old he placed third! Josh Sandoval tore it up and placed second, and it wouldn't be a Trifecta if Benji Galloway didn't win one of the events, and now he's a local.

I'm sick of the Trifecta. Are you? I can't wait till next year. Thanks to Shawn Reinert for letting us use these photos, and to Rich from EPM for letting me arm wrestle him for them.
