2007 Oregon Trifecta in Lincoln City

Lincoln City is the Grandaddy of Dreamland Skateparks. The oldest section has a great horseshoe layout with potential for amazing transfers. It is also rough due to age and the sea air but it is still a fun place for a contest, Dreamland perfect but also gnarly as hell.

There were a few standouts in the women's division. Some good airs and a few really skillful miniramp riders along with some good crashes. Annie Sullivan, Nicole Zuck and and Amelia Brodka were battling it out. A lot of the women were doing aerials and grinding the hell out of the bowls and working the spine. Annie Sullivan won but fell right at the end and broke her arm, bad luck, she was ripping.

The Grand Masters division is a fun part of the Trifecta because you never know what famous ripper from your childhood will be there. Pat Ngoho and Chris Cook and Jim Gray have been coming up for years and Duane Peters, Steve Alba, Steve Olson, Steve Schneer, Steve Steadham, and Glen Charnoski have been regulars and Lance Mountain, and Steve Caballero have made appearances. This year Buck Smith was a new addition. Jesse Martinez, Eddie Reategui and Ben Schroeder are other old pros rounding out the field of eighteen. An amazing contest this year with some great tricks that we haven't seen before - Reategui's blunt-mute-air-in. Buck Smith's Hazard, Schneer's one footed rock-to-fakie.

I hadn't heard of Charnoski before I met him at the Trifecta a few years ago but he's an amazing skater and he dominated. Buck Smith gave him a run for his money and Pat Ngoho always gets it done but Charnoski won. It was great to see DP in good form but he skipped the final again.

The pros, semi-pros and locals went at it again. This is an ordeal that takes forever to sift through. By the time it's over it's hard to remember who did what, especially if you are thinking back four or five days. Suffice to say, there was a lot of ripping by the usual suspects. One standout that was new to the Trifecta circuit was Raven Threshay out of Santa Cruz, who is something like 14 years old maybe? This kid has style though, and rides hard. At the end of the day the winners's podium was starting to seem like Deja Vu from two years ago. First place went to Rune Glifberg, second to Benji Galloway, and third went to Mark Scott, who had been charging around the whole park like a crazed person who build skateparks for a living and enters a contest in his home town. Clear the decks!

Another fun day to kick off the Trifecta with as far as we know, only one arrest of a gentleman who was urinating in the woods. They processed him in a hour or two and he made it back to the park for the finals. Lincoln City being Lincoln City and all, there were two other separate areas to session, but that's a subject for another photo essay. Instead, we bring you QUANTITY not Quality. That's no typo. We've included way too many pictures than should have made the cut here, but really, who cares. We're not pretending to be Transworld here.

Check out those purse levels, this year the winner took home half of what they did last year.
