Well all right! Opening day came and everyone was completely stoked on the new park. The weather was really crappy, but there was a pretty sizeable turnout with a lot of turnover throughout the day. Did anyone see the NIke SB team? Weren't they supposed to be there? Dignitaries and news crews were there. Skaters and a handful of bikers. There was even a Burnside local on roller skates. There were some airs across the mouse hole and near or at the top. So far as I know nobody has actually carved over the top, although Danger and Mike Swim were getting close while I was there, and I left at about 4:00. Enjoy these mostly crappy photos. I was a little bit out of it on Saturday, having spent the night in the park keeping out poachers and would be graffiti artists. The last couple of fence hoppers were escorted out around 4am. They promptly went to their car parked on the street and camped out until the gates opened. The SPS crew and Dreamland had their share of headaches and stress that were aggravated in the days leading up to the opening of the park, but it was all worth it to those who have ridden the park since. Of course it has been raining constantly since Sunday morning. You should check out more pictures at other fine establishments such as Antigravity Press, Steve Gump's gallery, Skaters for Portland Skateparks and Earth Patrol Media Blog. If anyone else has any, comment in the link. Video links here. I feel like I failed to document this very well, but then again maybe I didn't try to hard since I'll probably be there non stop for the foreseeable future. Anyone want to go to Newberg this weekend? Here's looking forward to Glenhaven and beyond!
