Reporter eats it on a skateboard

You be the judge. Watch this reporter take a hard slam on a skateboard while interviewing a BMX guy for the Dew Tour. Perhaps she should have gotten skateboard advice from a skateboarder instead. This happened on a local Portland newscast and somehow we got scooped. Catch this video without annoying aftermarket sound effects or Ebaums’ World screen tattoo after the jump.

LA WEEKLY SKATEBOARD COMMERCIAL

Here’s a short commercial for the free paper LA Weekly. LA Weekly is giving a nod to skateboarding culture without resorting to the easy way out with Extremeâ„¢ stereotypes. That’s what you’d expect with a “hip” paper. Appears to be shot on super 8 and looks authentic. Hmm… I wonder who made this. Sound familiar? Watch the video after the jump. (more…)

Coca Cola Skateboard full pipes ad

Coca-Cola Road Trip: I think this aired in the summer of 2006. In the story line, some kids get bored building their miniramp so they go on a road trip to find some full pipes in the desert. They skate for five minutes and get kicked out. Someone did some cultural research, throwing in terms like “desert water project” and having full pipes in the first place, except the pipes are small and metal. The punch line is “At least someone got to skate.” Gee, maybe if you hadn’t brought seven guys to the session in the middle of the day it wouldn’t have been a problem. These kids need to learn about stealth. All in all though, a fairly innocuous effort. Catch the video after the jump. (more…)

Whiny Skateboarder Tasered by Police

Watching the interviews with this kid will make you understand why he got tasered. It doesn’t make it right, but I would have been tempted to taser this annoying whiner myself. Campus authorities say the tasering was not because he was skateboarding, it was because he was not complying with police. A girl caught it on her cell phone and posted it on Youtube. Ironically, the original has disappeared and as of now only exists on Youtube as it has been shown on a couple different TV news shows, by pointing the news camera at a computer monitor. After the jump you can find some links to the story as well as a YouTube videos of the the news showing a YouTube video on TV. Can you deal with that? Am I blowing your tiny minds? (more…)

Vert skating is over, street skating is over, downhill is over

WSpencer

…skateboarding with wheels and trucks is over. This is apparently from a Denver shop video. I’m sure street skaters look at this guy the way vert skaters react to the Danny Way stunts but then again, I don’t understand modern street skating. (more…)

Burnquist-china

sideshowskateboarder wants to share a video with you. Well, they wanted to share a video with me and I want to share it with you. A bunch of crazy Bob Burnquist footage. Including the above - which I’m guessing is that giant Shanghai park with the pipe into the pipe thing. I hadn’t realized it was so big. I’m all impressed that Bob is going over it and then I see he’s nose grinding. (more…)

Aaron Fotheringham vs. Leeder O. Men

Wheelchair Backflip

One of the stories being recycled on CNN (TV) today is footage of some guys at the winter X-Games doing back flips on Snowmobiles. Whatever. Get back to me when you do it in a pickup truck. In the mean time, in a case of life catching up to skateboarding, a 14 year old kid named Aaron Fotheringham has completed a backflip on his wheelchair. What do I mean by life catching up to skateboarding? I’m talking about the character known as Leeder O. Men from the 80’s skate zine known as Naughty Nomads. Although fictional, Leeder was the first guy to ride vert on a wheelchair. There have been admirable, but mostly tame videos on the web of guys in wheelchairs at skateparks. Aaron seems to be taking it to another level. A where-are-they-now for Leeder O. Men, Naughty Nomads and more on Aaron Fotheringham, including the video after the jump. Tyson the Skateboarding Bulldog and the Puehse Twins. Yes, both are amazing and talented, and over exposed on the web. If you’re not sick of them yet, you will be when you’re done reading this… Oh, did I forget? Bam Margera! (more…)

Mystery of the weird ledges - Solved!
Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

You knew it was out there. I didn’t even have to look very hard. Well now I know why those weird ledges are there. To prop up your ass while watching your friends just take that manual pad apart!

Now let me take a moment to reminisce about the old girl.

I was at a gymnastics meet with my kids near the ramp one weekend. Those gymnastics meets can last four hours and you are usually spectating from crappy surplus folding chairs or some sadistic bleachers that some dad in the booster club cobbled together by adapting plans for tiered feed sack shelving. Your kid actually performs for maybe three and a half minutes total. I have two kids doing gymnastics at different levels sometimes we are there for two sessions. Naturally I ducked out for a quick few runs on the handy vert ramp. Watch the video and read more after the jump. (more…)
