30 vector illustrated skateboards
Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Vectortuts has a gallery of vector-illustrated skate decks. You make vector graphics with programs like Adobe Illustrator. Vector illustrations are scalable, - that is, you can make them bigger or smaller without degrading line quality. So, if you need to use an illustration in a bunch of different sizes and shapes, vector is a good way to go. They scratch up just as easily on the bottom of a deck, though.

A better look at those designs after the turn. The Vector tuts site has a great list of skateboard graphics resources too.

board pusher website

In case you didn’t read the comments on the previous custom board graphics post, JF pointed out the Board Pusher website. They have a much better range of sizes and shapes and are skate-centric. I wonder how the quality compares.

American Hardcore images

Fuck, man. It was a stroll down memory lane for me seeing this thing. I loved so many of these bands. There’s plenty of great footage and music. and lots of funny anecdotes. Gang Green touring with a skateboard ramp on stage, remember that?

Dr Brad wrote a review of the Julien Temple film Strummer: The Future is Unwritten. and proceeded to nag me relentlessly until I got it posted. It got to the point where I was considering not using it out of spite! So here it is, becasue if I don’t take care of this immediately, he may decide not to make his annual written contribution to Skate and Annoy.

Skeightfast Dyephun
Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I have been interested in drawing comics for a long time. But I have never been able to do a long-form piece like a comic book, My comics have always been more like newspaper comic strips or sunday funnies style one or two pagers. For me at least, the story has always been the challenge.

Victor Giannini commented on one of my comics and pointed us to his project. The web samples of Skatefast Dyephun originally seemed crude and juvenile to me. Kind of reminded me of this. The website had a couple of problems too but after I read through the sample pages I found the project crude and juvenile but in a really compelling way.

Valient Thorr Fu Manchu and Valient Thorr came into town this weekend to play at the Hawthorne Theatre. I had only heard of Valient Thorr in passing and was looking forward to hearing them live. To say the least, I was blown away by the energy of these guys! More about Valient Thorr after the jump. (more…)

We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen

The Minutemen. I think the first time I ever heard them was on a Skate Rock compilation. They were always championed by Thrasher. The DVD of the documentary has been out for a while. MC weighs in with a review of the 2 disc DVD, which you can buy from the web site along with some pretty cool looking skateboards that say it all. Check it out.
