Double Chin

Animal Chin came out 30 years ago, and what better way to celebrate that than to build a replica of the Animal Chin ramp. It grew from an idea to make a spine ramp to recreate the famous 4-way invert shot, but ultimately ended up as a complete reconstruction, minus the tunnel. Unlike the original, this ramp will last longer than a couple days, and has a permanent home at Woodward. If you’re going to recreate the Chin ramp, you might as well throw another party with Johnny Rad.

2015 Powell Christmas Ornaments

It’s the day after Thanksgiving, what are you doing reading this web site when you should be out there winning the battle against ISIS/Daesh through buying Christmas ornaments with skateboarding graphics on them? On Veterans Day you can say you fought with the Bones Brigade.

Powell Christmas

I would have thought the Christmas edition skateboards would have lost their appeal by now, and frankly, I don’t get it. They must be popular since Powell keeps issuing them, along with some Bones Brigade Christmas ornaments. Actually, they looks like they still have a 2013 edition board available. I do “get it” of course. People want to buy limited edition items and Powell wants to make money. Skateboard collecting is an odd thing. I can’t imagine anyone else makes Christmas-themed performance sports equipment that is fully functional and intended to be collected.

Stacy Peralta on George Stroumboulopoulos

Almost 11 minutes of Stacy Peralta being interviewed by George Stroumboulopoulos. Well, 7 minutes once you get past the intro. Nothing earth shattering or new, for that matter, but not boring actually. Worth it just to watch the brief exchange about the Hollywood and the Lords of Dogtown at around 9:30. BTW, there’s another round of Bones Brigade memorabilia/paraphernalia, most of it is sold out.

Reissue day

These Powell Peralta reissues are just the tip of the iceberg of what Stacy is pushing in connection with the Bones Brigade documentary. A few items are already sold out. I have… mixed feelings about this. I don’t begrudge these guys the right to make a living, but it seems a little excessive and counterintuitive to the legacy. I don’t know if they need the money or not. Maybe they realize their shelf life is limited at this (amazingly) late stage in their careers, so they’re just trying to get one last payoff. Check out the goods.

Bones Brigade Documentary

I’ve been waiting for an official trailer to post on this, but so far the only clip out there is this excerpt. It looks pretty good from this bit, although Stacy comes off a little maniacal. I thought I read that he had resisted making this film. It will be interesting to see if he does more than just the Bones Brigade love fest the fans will eat up considering there was no real drama akin to the trials and tribulations of the Z-boys. Who knows, maybe there’s a bombshell in there somewhere. It did show at Sundance, and the bitterness in Tony’s commentary about the peak of his (first) popularity is a little unexpected. So maybe there’s more than meets the eye. Nostalgia is fine and well, but here’s hoping that we get to see where and what these guys were up to during the crash of the 90’s.

UPDATE: Reviewed at Hitfix. Additional Stacy Peralta Sundance interview added.

Keep your eyes peeled on eBay for this one.

This G & S Billy Ruff Fiberlite deck with Z Roller trucks and Vision Blurrs was stolen from the Bones Brigade Documentary set last week. The skateboard belongs to Todd Huber of Skatelab. If you have any information in regards to it please contact us. promo@skateone.com or Skatelab 805-522-2221.

That stinks, but I guess the Bones Brigade documentary is on. I think I knew that already. There’s a still from what looks like a set after the jump, although the fact that there is a set seems a little odd. Maybe they are doing a talk show.

You’ve got some catching up to do.

I gaped. I couldn’t believe what I’d seen. He’d ridden the wall. I jerked my head around to share with everyone else’s amazement, and no one, not one single person seemed to have even noticed what Christian had done. Stecyk knew though, and said, “You’ve got some catching up to do.”

There’s an excellent in-depth interview with Jim Fitzpatrick interview on I Skate, therefore I am blog. It’s five parts long ( 12345) ! Fitzpatrick has seen some interesting times in skateboarding, including being involved in two hugely influential companies like Makaha and Powell Peralta, and spearheading the fight to have skateboarding classified as a hazardous activity. For those of you who scratch your head at that one, it’s one of the reasons that municipalities don’t have to carry massive skateboard-specific insurance riders for skateboard parks. Because, as an inherently dangerous activity, the rider assumes a certain amount of risk while engaging in the activity. The interview covers other aspects of Jim’s life as well, from surfing to being a Montessori school teacher. There’s even a Surf Punks reference. Definitely worth reading if you enjoy learning about key figures in skateboarding history. The picture on the left is from another interview on TEDx.

– Thanks to Jerome for the tip.

Boney Brigade

Bones Brigade reunion? Apparently there was some sort of meeting recently. This is an Atiba photo of the gang as seen on Steve Caballero’s facebook page. Man, these guys sure left a mark on skateboarding. Mullen looks like he escaped.
