Who the Heck is Per Holknekt?

I was scanning a Transworld subscription ad from 1983 with a guy who looked like Anthony Micheal Hall, but turned out to be Per Holknekt. I had absolutely no recollection of him so I did quick Google search. The first images that came up said something about him being a fashion designer, so I assumed it was another Per Holknekt. I mean, how many Per’s were there in the freestyle world? Well, it turns out Per Holknekt the fashion designer and Per Holknekt the Tracker freestyle skater are one in the same. The photo above (left) comes from an April 5th, 2016 interview on nouw.com with Per, where he talks about fashion and his skateboard career. At least that’s what I think he talks about, because it’s written in the language of fashion or something else I can’t decipher. The web site for his company Odd Molly features the occasional, 100% gratuitous skateboard in product photos.

This is Per’s freestyle model on Tracker, with a slightly different graphic than the version featured in this advert.  [Photo: Disposable: A history of Skateboard Art]

A comparison of the Flip Side and the Per Holknekt model. I think Per got the short  end of the stick on this. [Photo: The Disposable Skateboard Bible]

Product placement on Oddmolly. That skateboard really brings out the something or other in that butterfly pillow.

This next video appears to be from a TV program that might have been named Kosmopol, and dates back to 1990.

Pg 127 of the disposable skateboard bible shows his tracker board

    1. Sure does. I didn’t realize the Flip Side was his signature model. Interesting note, the board looks highly similar, but is different than the Flip Side deck featured in this ad. BTW, it’s on page 127 of Disposable. The Disposable Skateboard Bible is a completely different book.

Speaking of freestyle…Can anyone find Rodney Mullen skating so much as a miro mini ramp? Or even a small pipe or pool?? I can’t and find this more strange than alien sightings or Donald trump for that matter

    1. I thought I had a good one one here on S&A but I can’t find it. Here’s a shot of Rodney doing a rock and roll on what looks like a small quarter pipe. LINK

You know that he started Transworld back in the days?

  4. The Flipside and the Per Holknekt signature Flipside is the same shape. I rode them in mid 1980’s and part of the shape was inspired by one of the custom decks Per made for me before he got his Tracker deck (the nose, which in turn was inspired for by a custom made deck by Powell for Rondey Mullen)
