Turf Lights

An advert for Turf Lights printed in the October, 1990 issue of Transworld Skateboarding magazine. Doomed to fail because:

  1. Totally unnecessary
  2. Weird, off brand trucks used in photo
  3. Predates cheap, durable LED lights
  4. About as useful as original Elephant Brand wrench
  5. Can’t actually see product
  6. Can’t order direct
  7. Full pads used to to advertise a “street skating” product
  8. All of the above

– Thanks to Shawn Tribe for the pic.

UPDATE: Thanks to reader “Talentless Quitter” for identifying these as Ranger trucks. I thought they were Rannalli’s but the fact that Ranger were manufactured by Elephant Brand, makes Ranger more likely.

Tracking down these images was sort of tricky. I had to tweak the terms and order a few times. Here’s another from Vert is Dead. The article on “misunderstood trucks” also features the Rannalli trucks that have a similar raised hump across the axle.

I didn’t know the name but I remembered the ad from back in the day!
I had to sift through a few old copies of TWS to find it. My pleasure.
